Luke is as much a Mary Sue as Rey. He's immediately good, trains for half an hour in the second movie, and is then suddenly the best. I'd say he's written as pretty "ideal", but he's a man and people liked him when they were kids, so who cares.
Have you even watched the movies?

I don’t think it’s bombing for any particular reason for it just not being that good. Everyone outside of McGregor and Robbie were absolute shite. There was some cool action at the end but everything before that just seemed like a mess. They don’t get together until the end...needless, unnecessary time jumps and backstory dumps.

Before the final act, I was pretty damn bored. The last act was pretty good. That was about it. First two thirds, outside of McGregor as Sionis, totally forgettable and just downright boring at times. It’s a shame because I really wanted to like it

Yes, recently rewatched too, and if you think Luke legitimately earned greatness, you're full of shite. If you say it's because of his lineage, well, then that's also Rey, and you're again full of shite. Luke is immediately the hero, almost immediately has the abilities of a hero, and saves the day as the hero.

So you're one of the people who has feelings about Luke and ignores the lazy writing that went into his characterization. If you're arguing he's not an "ideal" because he's clearly a little bitch in A New Hope, I agree, but he's still immediately a savior.

Since only females are Mary Sues, and because the term has been widely adopted by the group that complains about most females in movies, I'm gonna say that the detractors have an issue with her gender.

The only thing luke is expert level at in the first two movies is flying, which the story gives us copious back story about how he grew up doing that. He put in his 10,000 hours you could say.

He isn’t doing anything requiring extended force capabilities until return of the Jedi. Two movies, two Jedi masters, years of fighting and emotional catharsis later.

Rey is besting a sith master in a force and lightsaber only fight by the end of the first movie with absolutely zero force training. She also does a Jedi mind trick about two days after learning what the force is. Which Luke doesn’t even attempt until the third movie

Don’t be stupid trying to be woke

At being a pilot. Which he was pretty boastful about from the very beginning. The first time he and Han Solo meet he brags to him about his piloting skills. We also get more of this in a deleted scene that was re-inserted in the Special Edition between Luke, Biggs, and Red Leader. In that scene, Red Leader is skeptical about Luke's ability to pilot an X-Wing. Biggs retorts that Luke is the best bush pilot in the Outer Rim territories.

In the sequel trilogy Rey, with admittedly no experience, is able to fly the Millennium Falcon better than even Han Solo.

Suddenly the best? Vader toys with him and then kicks his arse, all the while shattering his world by revealing to Luke that he's actually his father.

Don’t know whether to be shocked someone can be this wrong or impressed someone can tell a whopper of a lie like this so damned unashamedly.

Bingo.

And I don't mind Rey for the most part. But saying Luke is the same is revisionist history.

He's 1-2 at best against Vader/Emperor. Being an incredible Jedi is not part of the film really yet. And the entire climax relies on something completely different.

Unlike RotS.

The central message of the original trilogy is the ability of a character to overcome failure and improve. Luke has to learn patience and listen to older mentors. Essentially it reminds children that they can improve and don't know everything.

That's a big difference. The latest trilogy destroyed that essential character arc for both Rey and Luke. Rey because she never had to grow. Luke because he inexplicably regresses- but we don't ever get to see even that explored.

I also don’t think people care as much about Harley Quinn as what WB thinks. They took a risk and it bombed. They’re better off taking risks than not.

Agreed. People will disagree with me, but Harley Quinn is a supporting character, not a lead.
