When the usual suspects from the film critic crowd stared using the same buzzwords to praise this movie, I knew Birds of Prey was going to bomb.
Amazing how hollywood keeps doubling down on the get woke and go broke bullshite.

Low 80s both critics and audience on RT which is interdasting

Your average fun popcorn superhero movie that was lighter on feminism than most female led films and was basically a mid-level Marvel movie.

I blame the name of the movie. They were banking on the popularity of Harley Quinn and the movie is named Birds of Prey. It took me quite a few times of seeing the movie mentioned to finally associate that name with the movie. It just sounded like some IMAX 3D National Geographic limited release thing.

The marketing was trash. It looked like a goofball film...yet i hear its actually good

Here’s the thing about being the great evil, straight, sexist, white male in the year 2020. I can still spend the money I make on what I want to spend it on, as long as it is legal, and DGF what anyone else thinks.
If all the woke people would spend their money on woke movies and projects, they wouldn’t fail. But they don’t, so they fail. Instead, they sit in their miserable, npc lives and bitch about the latest wokeness that is oppressing them, while blaming the unwoke for their failure.

- Suicide Squad sucked so the DC fans who saw that will be far less likely to give this a chance
- Terrible time of year to get big theater numbers/sales
- This is just my opinion, but the character of Harley Quinn post-transformation into the psycho, probably isn't worthy of a movie. Her origin story and character development from normal into psycho might be, but not afterwards. She's kind of boring and annoying to have that much screen time.

Suicide squad wasn't great and this is a spin off of that.
This is the sole reason I knew I wouldn’t see Birds of Prey

Who would have ever thought this to be true?! Wow, what a revelation!

They announced that they are changing the name of the movie to Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey. Seems like they agree with my sentiment about the name of the movie being a big issue.

She proves the point. She's a terrible character with a terrible story in the film that does and says dumb shite. She's disliked for those reasons, not because she has a vagina.
Similarly Rey. Detractors don't have issues with her because she's female, but because she is a Mary Sue. A similarly overpowered, seemingly invincible Force nube that was male would similarly be slammed by fans.

Isn't February generally considered the worst time of year to release a movie and is thus the time when studios dump their shite into theaters?
Historically maybe, but this has been proven false in recent years. It really doesn’t matter when a movie is released - if the marketing strategy is sound and the movie is good quality, it’ll be a hit.
Deadpool, Black Panther, Lego Movie, Kingsman were all February releases that did well and all got sequels.

Since only females are Mary Sues, and because the term has been widely adopted by the group that complains about most females in movies, I'm gonna say that the detractors have an issue with her gender.
Luke is as much a Mary Sue as Rey. He's immediately good, trains for half an hour in the second movie, and is then suddenly the best. I'd say he's written as pretty "ideal", but he's a man and people liked him when they were kids, so who cares.

she was weak on "The hot Ones".

Wesley Crusher is usually cited as the male version of a Mary Sue.

Suddenly the best? He failed to lift his X Wing. He got his arse kicked and got his hand cut off by his own fricking Dad and had to be rescued by his sister.

I didn't see it because the trailer gave me a headache. And it looked like shite.

His first real fight, he gets fricked up and loses a hand. And that was AFTER his training under Yoda
Rey's first real fight, she beats the frick out of a trained force user with a weapon she has never wielded before, AND out-force-powers him. She has had no force-mentor or force training at that point.
But yeah, just the same.
quote:What?
He's immediately good,
Before Dagobah, the only force shite he does is 1) using the Force to fire laser torpedoes, and 2)force grabbing his light saber in the ice cave. . .which takes him a looooooong time to do.
Rey is able to read minds and do Jedi Mind Tricks the MOMENT SHE FINDS OUT THOSE ARE THINGS THE FORCE CAN DO
Same same?
quote:She is the best before anyone talks to her about the Force.
trains for half an hour in the second movie, and is then suddenly the best.
Your point is laughably wrong
Gotta be trolling
