For the most part...show stays fairly true to the book.

Well way to go! So everyone who read the book had you spoil it for them on the second page.

Dude you didn't have the self control to watch an 8 part mini series without going to Wikipedia and looking up the ending. Then for no reason at all, come in this thread and post the ending. Even though no one was asking for it.

Just watched this week's episode. Looks like the finale is going to be pretty good.

And I'm pissed at myself for accidentally reading the spoilers posted in this thread.

I really like this show. They have cast all of the characters really well. I have not read the book but my friends who did say it's really good. I like the theory somebody had in this thread that it's the twins hurting the little girl at school. I have not noticed the kids do anything violent though. My guess on who dies is either Reese or Alexander.

To the guy posting book spoilers-YOU SUCK

I'm confused as to why they all remained mum and said he tripped. He's beating the shite out of her and the other woman pushes him and he falls down the steps. The cops tried to say it would have been involuntary manslaughter, but would it not be justifiable? IANAL, so I don't know these things. Dude's beating his wife, someone intervenes, he dies, case closed.

All in all the series was okay. Killer soundtrack. The only real mystery was who was going to be the one that killed Perry and how. He was set up to be the bad guy the whole time and you knew the plot was going in the direction of him being the rapist.

I also don't get this. It's not even like he slapped her once and then he got pushed down the stairs, he was kicking and punching her while she was on the ground. I think that's enough to say that her life was in danger, thus justifying him being pushed down the stairs.

liked the series. I was glad the slow build up delivered with the wife beater having an affair with the friend.

the answer to your question is "Women"

They dont like being embarrassed by the social stigma that comes with being raped or beaten...especially when children are involved.

I read the book prior to watching the show so knew how it ended. I really enjoyed the series and the soundtrack. I felt like the death scene was a little rushed and hard to watch with the quick flashes between the party and waves, but that's just a small complaint.

The very last scene, where it appeared there was someone watching them, is maybe setting the show up for another season? I don't remember that from the book, but it's been awhile since I read it.

Affair?

Perry RAPED Jane years ago....resulting in her getting pregnant with Ziggy. That's not an affair.

loved the acting by dern, kidman and the others. they made the show what it was.

whats the deal with the zippo clicking detective? that got annoying.

also i thought the woman panting originally was the kravitz daughter who was out of breath from pushing him down the stairs. is there another person lurking?

It was the detective...flicking the lighter...I dont think its a set up for another season or anything...just showing that she was watching.

I watched the commentary after the finale. In it, the writer says that people want their TV shows to have closure but we rarely get it IRL. The ending scene depicting a detective watching them from afar is meant to show this concept of nothing ever truly being "closed".
