I assumed he was just nervous about singing in front of all of those people

That's what I thought... especially after Lenny's daughter.

What the show left out...

Yeah that definitely adds a lot of depth, and makes the their pact of silence easier to understand. I wrote it off as them being afraid it wouldn't be seen as self defense, because she wasn't one of the ones that was actually being attacked.

So many insufferable people on this show thought all the actors did a great job, and really enjoyed the show. Glad most of them came around in the end. Agree that Chloe was the best.

I enjoyed the series and the ending. Things are not always printed out for us. We must use a little imagination..

Great job HBO

. I think you underestimate the kind of a child in this day and age.
The one thing I found unrealistic about the show was how "with it" a bunch of 6 year olds were - curating classic playlists and giving witty wisecracks. Just didn't ring true.

Maybe a dumb question but do you feel it was really confirmed that wife beater was the rapist? I felt like she projected several people to be the rapist throughout the series (maybe I'm misremembering).

She mentions about midway through that she'd know it was him when she heard his voice. That she knew that voice. If you go back and visceral reaction to his voice that pretty much solidifies it. And then her visual exchange with Celeste and Madeline and their reactions confirms that they picked up on it.

one unresolved point for me; why was reese witherspoon's husband freaking out before he went on stage and pounding vodka?

I thought he had put it together when they first arrived and saw the director and his wife. That's when his sulking started, at least. I thought he was pounding the vodka because he was about to flip the script and sing "Suspicious Minds" to call them out.

Bumping this thread because I just watched this over the weekend while recovering from minor surgery. A few thoughts.

1. Reese Witherspoon - WOW! I've never been a big fan of hers, but she blew me away with this performance. She owned every scene she was in, even the ones with Nicole Kidman who was also great in this.

2. Thought it was a little predictable at times. Didn't read the book, but caught on midway through that Perry was the one that was going to be murdered. Maybe it was a lucky guess. Didn't anticipate him being Jane's rapist though, and didn't anticipate Bonnie being the one to kill him.

3. What was the point of the Madeleine affair to the storyline? I guess just to make them all more unlikable, but that part felt forced. I see earlier in the thread that it wasn't part of the book.

4. Was there a likable male character in the show? I guess Tom(I think? The coffee shop guy) was the only one. Gordon was awful, obviously Perry was, Ed was such a wimp, etc. They all sucked, which made the show more enjoyable, IMO. I guess the women were pretty bad as well, but I liked Jane, and even Madeleine to an extent.
