This is when Bond becomes Bond. That is the point of the movie. He becomes the callous womanizer after that and kills the guy he believes responsible.

It is basically an origin story and it does a fantastic job of being one.

Amen.

Also, I'm sorry if this is unpopular, but I thought it was necessary. By the end of the Brosnan films, Bond films were basically mindless checklists.

Evil villian bent on world domination? Check.
Introducing Bond to gadgets that will later pay off? Check.
Female character Bond will later sleep with? Check.

Casino Royale retained the basic elements of the character and story, showed us events that formed the Bond we think of, and didn't just spit out another checklist Bond film. After Brosnan, that shot a jolt of life into the franchise.

Just rewatched that scene. god diamonds are forever is such a low budget piece of crap. it should have been a tv holiday special not a Bond film.

That's because it's a greater than 20 film series. People go to Bond movies to see a Bond movie, not something else. That means the checklist becomes a thing so that people get what they want. Casino royale lacks parts of it and seems to deconstruct it in others. Not a fan of watching someones take on "what if bond wasn't bond yet"

I did not like the movie, nor did I like it's sequel Quantam of solace. I was worried they were gonna kill the series. I did enjoy Skyfall, actually had a good villain again which was surprising and gave me hope they could still make a decent Bond movie

The girl from Thunderball was hot

But i'd have Eva Green and Jane Seymore as a tie.

I'll throw the girl from Goldfinger in just because its the best Bond movie...

I get that, but I don't think the formula was working at the end.

The other part of Bond is that I don't think the old style Bond works as well in the modern world. The tropes like the bad guy living on his own island...with today's technology and drone strikes, that's no biggie. You don't need a secret agent.

Casino Role actually followed the book. The better ones followed the books closely instead of clowning around or doing that whole Drax thing

That's all they have ever been and that's all they really need to be. I don't mind a shake up to the formula every once in a while like what we got with Casino Royale, but Bond doesn't need to be dark and brooding in every single movie. Sometimes the simplest formulas are the best.

If you are a fan of the cougar version of Maud Adams than sure. But if you are a fan of a Maud Adams who is 10 years younger, try The Man With the Golden Gun version.

Disagree

Remakes of You only live twice and man with the Golden gun would be good IF the books are followed.

Bond avenges his wife, then loses his memory in the garden of death fight. Brainwashed and tries to kill M.

The stories in Hollywood when Sean C. was reaching his peak of popularity were that he was always leaving a scene as soon as it was completed & almost running back to his trailer to bed the resident Bond girl. And was also late for filming for the same reasons. But he's admitted, numerous times, that he was fricking them all.

A best.
Casino Royale. Solange Dimitrios played by Caterina Murino.

A best. Quantum of Solace. Strawberry Fields played by Gemma Atherton.

Gemma was one of my favorites as well. She is my kind of hot

Carol was underrated as a bond girl. Loved her

One of my least favorite Bond Girls was Michelle Yeoh. DIdnt like her acting or her looks
