LSU has landed one of the top young arms in the transfer portal on Thursday with former Gonzaga right-hander Landon Hood committing to the Tigers, according to multiple reports.

Hood arrives in Baton Rouge after earning West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year honors and immediately becomes a key piece of LSU's pitching rebuild under coach Jay Johnson and pitching coach Nate Yeskie.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Arizona native was one of the most sought-after pitchers available after entering the portal with a "do not contact" designation, signaling that he likely already had a destination in mind.

As a freshman in 2026, Hood posted a 3-1 record with a 2.48 ERA and five saves while striking out 78 batters in 54.2 innings. He appeared in 16 games, including four starts, and finished with a stellar 0.98 WHIP that ranked among the nation's best. Hood's mid-90s fastball and swing-and-miss changeup helped him emerge as one of college baseball's top freshman pitchers, giving LSU a potential weekend starter with multiple years of eligibility remaining.

Let’s assume for now that he can throw strikes and may have potential.

But will this translate into SEC play?

Baseball just seems to scout and evaluate at the college level harder than even 5 years ago

We landed some "talented" players from the portal last year. Turns out that some weren't as talented as we thought. Moral of the story : Let's just wait and see.
