From my understanding, Star Wars fans universally hated the Last Jedi. Not just disliked the movie, but pure hatred towards the film.

Yet it still made over 600 mil, domestically. A number other blockbusters would kill for. I think the ceiling is still high despite the lukewarm response for TLJ.

A full grown and matured silverback gorilla versus a sad Down Syndrome baby. Who wins in the octagon?

Avengers will beat it handily. Except for the hardcore cultists, I think the bloom is off the rose of the Star Wars franchise for the average movie-goer.

It goes beyond hatred. So far beyond hatred.

Avengers, and it won't be close. Star Wars is going to miss its targets opening weekend big time due to the backlash from Episode 8. Star Wars has a chance for a comeback victory, but only if audience reviews are absolutely glowing. No one will trust the critics again after last time.

End game. There's little to no debate to had about that.

TLJ destroyed a lot of trust amongst the Star Wars fanbase and it will be extremely hard to get it back. Episode 9 will have to essentially retcon episode 8 out of existence.

I’m on a 3 month ban bet with Roaad that Episode IX doesn’t gross more than a billion, so that should say all that needs to be said.

I won't be seeing Star Wars in the theater regardless. May go see the new Jumanji movie on opening day in hopes that something else does better than Star Wars opening weekend.

IW did not come close to the force awakens.

But like half of TLJ’s domestic gross came from its opening weekend. They had good favor with TFA, but all that has been ruined by TLJ.

Dude, it’s Star Wars. Only 600 million for the film that reintroduces Luke fricking Skywalker should be viewed as a colossal failure.

Essentially? The entirety of Episode 8 needs to either be a fever dream by Rey on Luke's Island or an illusion by Snoke.

It actually did the impossible as in it actually got the people to actually appreciate/respect the prequels, even with Jar Jar, midichlorians and all that.

That's basically hell freezing over as far as Star Wars fans was concerned.

And that's the one bright spot for me as I like the prequels and why I enjoyed the Clone Wars series even more.

250 million came from the opening weekend and then had a historic drop the next weekend. Keep in mind that like $80 million of that were presales. You’re being intellectually dishonest.

You should do more than 3 months if you're confident.

Same reason why Batman vs Superman was a failure as well.

BvS barely made its budget back and din't even sniff a billion while a couple years later, Aquaman of all people is the first DC movie to make a billion since the Dark Knight Rises.

Movies depend on good word of mouth to make its money and good word of mouth depends on competent story telling that honors the characters and their source material and strikes the right tone and environment to the audience.
