I still feel that a well received star wars film smashes anything else. But that'll get put to the test this year.

My guess is the title for Episode 9 will be revealed
A lot of people are predicting “Balence of the Force”.

We can debate, perhaps arbitrarily, whether Frozen 2, Lion King or Toy Story 4 will earn more globally. We can argue whether Captain Marvel will earn grosses closer to Doctor Strange or Thor: Ragnarok (or beyond). And we can discuss how by how far Dumbo and Aladdin will end up trailing The Lion King, Frozen 2 and Toy Story 4. But the big (and fun) question will be a somewhat unprecedented showdown of sorts between Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars Episode IX.
We have two season finales/end-of-the-line chapters opening within eight months of each other, and it's all but certain that they will end the year as the two biggest grossers of 2019. But who will win out? Just for fun, I wanted to dig into the precedent and see what big Disney franchise ender (yes, both Lucasfilm and the MCU will live on, but you get the idea) has the advantage. Before we get into this, these are not predictions. It is always possible that something like The Lion King will click on an unprecedented scale (or that Captain Marvel will flirt with Black Panther numbers). Presuming that Star Wars 9 and Avengers 4 battle it out for the title of "biggest movie of 2019," what's the likely outcome?

End Game... by a considerable margin
I'm not going to see Star Wars unless the reviews are so otherworldly that I am compelled to see it in theatres.

When did they make 8?

Endgame. By a mile. The damage done to SW franchise by TLJ will be felt for the next 5 SW films.

Avengers pretty easily.
Marvel is coming off 2.048 billion off the first film that was loved by fans, and all will be clamoring to come back and see the finale.
The last Star Wars movie did 1.3 billion and even the first film in the trilogy only did 20 million more than Avengers, and I highly doubt the newest one reaches 2 billion unless its the most loved movie in Star Wars history. Too many people are jaded.

WW, it should be Avengers. Domestic, however, is another story. IW did not come close to the force awakens.

I'd go with Avengers Endgame.
I say that as a Star Wars fan, that prior to The Force Awakens, would argue that Star Wars was the top franchise in existence and on a whole other level than the MCU.
Avengers Infinity War was Marvel at the top of it's game; and SW The Last Jedi was Star Wars careening off into a ditch with the wheels falling off.
I have minimal interest in the future of Rey, Kylo, etc. I have a huge amount of interest in what happens after Thanos.

Endgame. I'm sure I'm not the only one not seeing Star Wars unless there is a radical undoing of the damage done in TLJ.

Worldwide, the only question will be whether Endgame doubles Episode IX.
Interest in episode IX has been muted and Star Wars still hasn't cracked the code on their China problem.

Meanwhile Disney laughs all the way to the bank

3 Years ago this is a different answer, but now it's Endgame, no question.
That can change if buzz is off the charts amazing, but I don't see that happening.

Star wars will never be the same. When you shite on the centerpiece character of the entire franchise like they did and repeatedly pander to modern political groups in the process, that's a death knell. It won't be the same again.

I'm as big a die hard Star Wars fan as any (sans the collectors) and even I'm more excited for End Game than Ep. 9. I wouldn't be surprised if Star Wars finishes behind End Game, Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, and Far From Home.

Im not a star wars fan at all. I think ive seen 4 movies out of the whole series?
From my understanding, Star Wars fans universally hated the Last Jedi. Not just disliked the movie, but pure hatred towards the film.
In order for this next film to even come close to End Game, the trailers will have to blow fans away. Early reviews will have to absolutely love love love the film in order to bring back the fanbase.
On the other hand, Marvel has not made a bad film yet. Sure, they've made some films better than another. But i have yet to to regret buying a ticket for a MCU film.

The issue with this is line of thinking is TLJ had great trailers and some of the most over the top positive reviews you'll ever read. This film will have to make its money on word of mouth and staying power.
