The originals were centered around Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker and went into so much detail on them.

It makes perfect sense for the prequels to follow suit.

Yes, Luke and Vader were the main characters and leaders for each side, but there are other characters and engaging subplots that make those movies work.

Lucas was entirely focused on showing Anakin's transformation to the dark side and it's almost like he forgot to focus on any of the supporting characters. Nearly all of them are shallow and boring, and lack any kind of unique characteristics and personality that make them stand out.

It was absolutely necessary to include Anakin in the prequels (mainly for the conflict in Revenge of the Sith), but I just don't agree with the way his story was told.

The only thing that I resent is the unavailability of the original versions of the first three films.

Lucas took that option away from Star Wars fans. That's unforgivable.

Ah, but there is something out there that may please you. Some serious Star Wars fans have meticulously reconstructed the original trilogy in the original theatrical form. They located old worn prints of the original theatrical releases and used those as guides. They used more recent HD releases as their source material, and edited them to remove the CGI and the edits done later for the video releases. The result is the original theatrical releases but in HD.

It's called Star Wars Despecialized Edition

Google "star wars despecialized edition download" for guidance.

Rumor is that since this year is the 40th anniversary of the original release, Disney will be releasing the original theatrical trilogy on Blu-Ray.

Wonder if Disney will include a message at the beginning warning viewers about the lack of diversity.

No to prequels. I enjoyed Rouge One and The Force Awakens.

Isn't Rogue 1 technically a prequel?

If you're nitpicking, yes.
But- same era, same Empire.

Rogue 1 is like Guns of Navarone compared to Saving Private Ryan; yes, it's set earlier. But it's still set in the same war, vs the same enemy, just in a different location and an earlier part of the war.

The Prequel Trilogy is like watching Legends of the Fall and Gallipoli *(not in quality, but these were set prior to and during WW1), and then going to a WW2 series.

Rogue One wasn't tooooooo bad. Except for that they have all sucked except the first one. And Lucas stole that story from a Japanese film as many know - "The Hidden Fortress" and he got script doctor Warren Skaaren to write it. I don't find Skaaren credited with that, but I recall hearing it at the time.

Lord knows George Lucas has no story sense.

As a Star Trek fan, I'm kind of happy that the original trilogy no long has the shine of being holy scripture. Lucas' sequels and re-edits tarnished the first three movies badly. And now the franchise is being diluted even further with these random films that are weirding the original stories and characters.

Not that the first three weren't great fun. But I never got the instant mega-fandom that erupted from them.

The prequels, for all the hate the films get, established probably the most beloved and well fleshed out era of Star Wars, so I am appreciative of all 6 films.

Maybe they should have stopped there though

all the time. I wanted the prequels to be great but they were horrible. Everything else has just been Disney squeezing all of the blood out of the franchise (I hate that word) and making slightly better but still shitty movies.

Yes, it should have ended with return of the Jedi. Was a perfect ending to it all.
