It's informed the short episodes are because the idiot in charge of HBO at the time said people didn't want hour long TV shows these days.
Great episode, almost hard to watch it was so brutal.

Good episode overall, but I could have done without so much backstory in an episode that was built up all season. Feel like I was cheated out of a lot of runtime.

Honestly disappointed. Thought it’d be much more of the fighting and the after effects of that.
Getting so much of the backstory (while really good) was just disappointing because it didn’t match what I thought the episode would be about.
These episodes just aren’t long enough!!!!

The flashback went on so long, I was beginning to think they were saving the fight for the last episode.

If thats what it takes to make shows this good, im down for it. In all likelihood a fight like this would probably last less than 10 minutes...may less than 5. At least the filler was good stuff too, seeing Arlen kill two city guards while drunk

This is the first show I've ever watched where I was checking the time progress in the episode to figure out if the battle was even going to take place this week. I was fully expecting a bait and switch where we got a full flashback episode after Duncan got knocked out.

I thought the episode was brilliant with just enough of the fighting to get what Dunk is about. Raw and first time in battle. This show it’s the mark.

I enjoyed the episode but this was the first time where I felt the length could have been a little longer. We got little to no time with the others, and the ending felt a bit rushed.

Surprised at the hate this episode is getting. Thought it was really good. Probably could have saved the Dunk backstory for later like in S2 but it didn’t bother me.
Kind of surprised Dunk had his arse handed to him for the majority of the fight. He must get a lot better as the series progresses

I could understand the gripe that the episodes are too short but I think that's also part of why this show just works. It's the anti-HotD with no chance to use filler episodes. The flashbacks work for me, but I get people want full on action with the way it's been setup.

I don’t think people have adjusted to the run time yet and they are used to 5-7 story lines like in GOT.
We have one single story here with just a few characters with one being the sole focus. It’s based on a 100 page Novella and we are getting nearly every detail from the book with hardly any deviation. I think everyone has been entertained just not from 5-6 different directions over 70 minutes. It’ll be okay, yall. Enjoy it for what it is.

He's just pretty green with fighting in general and had a bit of a drunk as a mentor. And was fighting against someone who has trained for stuff like this his whole life. Only advantage he had was brute strength.

Holy straw man Batman. No one is asking for 5-6 storylines over 70 minutes, just that the main plot climax episode of the season be at least 45 minutes. This episode was only 37 minutes. They could have easily extended scenes around and in the trial another 8 minutes and been honorable to the source material.
In fact, people who have read the books say there was more stuff in the battle that was not covered.
