having read the book, you are wrong. By far. But that’s your MO.

Well yea, I thought that was Aerion’s right, obviously don’t care but pretty understandable why he would think someone would help him.

Like I said, There were a few camera pans of other fights so a rewatch can see more. Aerion was fighting and Maekar tried to defend him and 2 people held him back. Need to go back and see who held him.

I guess I don’t just assume the kingsguard are dead. They can’t kill Baelor but Baelor just executed them? That doesn’t seem like him at all.

I didn’t read the novellas so maybe I’m just an idiot. There were a ton of moving parts so who knows, assume it will all be explained next week but just in ordering the cliffhanger we are left with

Sounds like you're in the wrong thread then if you want to flaunt your book knowledge

This is the thread for the people who haven't read the books and aren't douchebags trying to spoil everything. You're in the right place. It's fun to speculate what may happen.

Why are you getting all high & mighty when you’re the one who brought it up…?

We hear from Raymund afterwards that Beesebury, and Hardyng are both dead. They were lined up against kingsguard knights in the beginning so it is assumed that they were dispatched by them. We also know that Robyn Rhysling was lined up against Prince Daeron who made it clear that he wasn’t going to fight back so it can be assumed that he was freed up to attack the kingsguard after the first pass. Then Lyonel Baratheon who is arguably their best fighter was also lined up against a kingsguard so if he won his first fight then that frees him up too. The kingsguard couldn’t provide aid to Aerion because they were engaged the whole time.

Those Ser Arian flashback “get up”s brought me right back to Mick in Rocky V.

Appreciate it. Like I said, I wanted to rewatch to pause and really break it down. That makes sense. I thought that 2 Bees and Hardyng got smoked and 2 guys were free, but didn’t think of Daeron then also Lyonel

I NEED more info with how Raymund survived…I guess he just knew his cousin’s moves so well?

Really enjoyed that episode. My only complaint is I would have liked to see more of the other guys fighting.

Here's a really good breakdown. No spoilers. Ray is Dunk's f'n boy, though he be on the green side.

I only read it after this episode. And I haven’t shared a single detail only that the show is very consistent with the book. You are not the gatekeeper of this thread.

FWIW, in the after show they explained they wanted it to be from Dunk’s POV. So lots of fog and confusion in the battle. Really amping up the fear/anxiety he feels in those moments. Makes sense.

Apparently they also couldn’t add more to the fight scene because of the budget.

I’ll try and add some book insight without spoiling, the fight was done well all things considered and nothing massive was omitted that changes what we saw. Biggest things is the book comments on how Lyonel is known for laughing at his opponents while he whoops their arse and we haven’t seen that, also the book comments on dunks side using tourney lances for a reach advantage over the war lances of aerions side but that didn’t matter much. Dunk gets much more fricked up in the TV version but as long as he recovers the same then it don’t really matter.

Biggest omission regarding the battle in my opinion is a thematic line by Pate the blacksmith on the way to the trial the smallfolk flock to dunk and he says something like why are they supporting me, who am I to them? And pate says “a knight who remembered his vows.” Line is missing but the theme is portrayed well enough throughout the rest of the show

Edit: one more thing, in the book aerion yields quietly and dunk thinks it’s done but notices aerion going for his dagger so dunk knocks it aside and that’s when he drags aerion through the mud to loudly withdraw the accusation. Not terribly different

Dunk vs Aerion was very very brief. Not to give any type of book spoilers but I'd say if anything, the battle, though short, was stretched out.

They spent 19 minutes on non book material this episode. They just chose to do it with a Dunk flashback, not extra fighting.

Book version of the battle is a HELL of a lot more realistic!

First pass Dunk hits Aerion's shield. Dunk gets hit in the side with the joist and almost falls off Thunder. Second pass Aerion's horse collides with Thunder knocking him down. Dunk gets hit in the head a couple of times with the Mace as Aerion talks shite. Dunk rolls over, pulls him to the ground, and beats the shite out of him with Aerion's shield until Aerion quietly says he yields.

Aerion tries to get his dagger, Dunk knocks it out and drags him to the stand so everyone can hear Aerion withdraw his accusation.

The getting stabbed over and over and almost dying while Egg is telling him to get up is a creation of the show writers... along with the ENTIRE flashback scene.

sees that’s my main issue. Great show but if you’re going to add shite from that’s not in the books, why not draw it out for another 25 minutes with filler about that town itself with other minor characters? Just trash that these episodes are all 35 minutes and under. Last two episodes have been elite. Dive a little more into the backstories of other characters.

I liked the POV for Dunc also, thought it was a good decision being it’s his first taste of combat. I get ppl wanted less flashback and more of the battle but these episodes are really short and I think a binge after the entire shows release will be very good on rewatchability. If for example we would’ve gotten Breakspear getting hit during the battle it might not have been as impactful as the twist at the end of the ep.
