Now this may be just me but we can discuss. Who is the central character of this show because right now it seems like the young girl. She doesn't make it up north, as she is arrowed to crap by Indians.
If Tim McGraw or Faith Hill plan to carry this show past one season, they probably need to flesh out their character more besides just "dad" and "mom".

I'm not emotionally invested in this series yet. Closest thing to that is the black guy and he doesn't get much screen time.
Sam Elliot's character probably should be in a sanitarium. He lit his own house on fire, tried to commit suicide and is now treking cross country for money he probably doesn't need considering his Union pension.
He always looks like someone put on too big a saddle on him but he chose that life. He chose to herd those folks and he gets absolutely pissed off at them. It doesn't make much sense.
Reminds me of an old baseball coach I had in middle school. Used to dog cuss us all the time. Hated being out there. Swore he was wasting his time. Finally this one kid asked him "Why you doing it? You ain't got no kid out here". His response was he made us run more laps. I'll never forget that

I think it makes perfect sense through the lense of the year 1883. He's lost basically everything and is reckless, but still living whatever life he has left. He's definitely crazy and hotheaded but at least it's to teach them. These people ain't listening.

Love the show
Tim and Faith have surprised me.
One thing I’m waiting for is a run in with the Comanches
They owned central and west TX, especially in the area they are

Was that mentioned in Yellowstone?

Figured Ennis would get it at some point, but episode 5 before the Indian attack!?

Not in 1883 they didn’t, the Comanches were whipped by then.

Knew ol baw would get it the second they started talking about babies and love. How many seasons do they plan on making? Will we see Kansas by season 3? I guess Sheridan wanted to show what a wagon train looked like in real time. One thing I think they’ve covered enough and can move on from for the rest of the season is the immigrants crying about how hard it is followed up by Sam Elliot cussing them out and leaving somebody behind. We’ve seen it 10 times in 5 episodes now.
Once the group is whittled down to about 20 people who are worth half a shite, I bet they can move faster.
There’ll be some come to Jesus episode where they all agree the ones left are onboard and then they’ll start traveling faster.

much better episode.
ole baw got the scary movie treatment. get laid, get dead.
if the war vets could shoot worth a shite, the bandits never make it to the main camp.
mom says "you have to raise the baby, i won't do it" wonder if that changes now? because, you know she's knocked up with the cowboy dead.
also, hard to believe that smooth talking fricker never got laid before. I guess he's just been out on the trail away from women ?

Yes you’re right. I was off by a decade or two
I would imagine a cross with some Indians

If you remember the open scene of Episode 1 where Elsa gets an arrow to the gut, there are mountains in the background. I’m guessing that would be around Colorado or Wyoming. The Wagon Train also looked much smaller.

Thats the part that disappointed me too was none of them could hit the broad side of a barn shooting and apparently you can get more than 6 shots off on a six shooter.

So what’s the theory on the opening scene and Tim McGraw getting shot?
Do he and Elsa die soon? Or do you think that’s way in the future?
Was hoping to get many seasons out of this

I like how when they first start they decide to get cattle so they won't starve.
They get like 100 cows.
Then later when they are getting low on food they are in panic mode saying they're about to starve.
Yet the cows were still with them. You telling me those cowboys and the farmer couldn't figure out how to get meat out of a cow?

Didn’t Tim say that? He said we have cows right there

yep, but sam said they would need them later. I was thinking, if we die now, they won't be much good later.

You bring up a point I was thinking about last night though. Setting this show just a decade earlier introduces a lot larger threat from Plains Indians.
I’m sure they’ll run into a few the further North they get, but by 1883 the majority of the Plains Indians had been pacified and moved onto reservations.
The buffalo are gone by this point too, if Sheridan throws in a scene of them coming up on thousands of Buffalo in 1883 he’s an idiot.
