I know that many immigrants did indeed perish on the Oregon trail and other routes, but these Germans are portrayed as extremely helpless, naïve, and downright pitiful. Might be accurate, I don't know.
One of my biggest complaints. I've read enough to know you could be at the top of your game and still perish, but Germans as people generally have their shite together. I live 1.2 miles from the Donner Trail in Utah. What these people risked outside of this TV show is incredible. Hard times makes hard people.

(edit) One other small complaint on 1883. Why isn't Ms. May just her natural hair color? She's a brunette. It's really distracting.

Sheridan throws in a scene of them coming up on thousands of Buffalo in 1883 he’s an idiot.

He already explained in Yellowstone that the last surviving wild buffalo hid out on the ranch in a valley

He would be exceedingly stupid to throw in a large heard of buffalo in 1883

In 1883 most of those people would have gone by train, especially a farmer from Tennessee. Like Yellowstone, it's not the most realistic show.

What the frick. Just watched episode 5. Talk about lazy script writing. Just all around shite. I told the wife exactly what was gonna happen 2 episodes ago and yet they did it anyways.

Really disappointed. Had high hopes for this show.

Why did he just not call it 1868 or 1871? Any differences?

I mean, everyone on this show is ridiculously good looking. You have to suspend your disbelief to get past it

I have no idea why he chose 1883. Majority of the Indians are pacified, buffalo are gone, train travel was common, etc etc

Setting it in either of those dates you gave would’ve added a lot of factors if you ask me.

Why the frick the Dutton’s went down to Ft. Worth from Tennessee, instead of taking the train is beyond me. The Northern Pacific ran into Montana from the east by 1882.

There are a lot of unanswered questions that I am sure we will eventually find the answers to.

Remember as far as the travel, they originally had two extra members with Faith’s bitch sister and niece. Maybe there was a financial reason for the ladies taking the train to Fort Worth and James taking the wagon to meet them. Also, did they have to go South to collect Faith’s sister before heading west?

When Thomas first found the fire left by the bandits, why did he say they were barefoot?

When we see them a little later, they are clearly not barefooted.

Yeah I’ve had to just put that part out of my mind when watching. They could have easily been in Montana safe and sound in a week by train

No, last week they said "in 2 weeks"

I'm assuming to not compete with football tonight.

The civil war jacket the black dude is wearing has held up pretty well if it’s at minimum 18 years old

I don't think steaming only series worry too much about television too much. I do think they like to stretch series out so people that want to watch as it goes have to keep the service for a month longer than if they just ran them all back to back.

I love her character

But my lord I despise the narration
Almost ruins the show for me.
So forces and just plain fricking annoying.

It makes you wonder who thought that was a good idea?
