Writers wanted a city people would recognize and easily compare to today's world. That is probably all there is to it.

As I look into it, seems like just laziness on Sheridan’s part.
They would not go through Abilene and be subject to freezing to death.
Does it matter for the plot? Not really. So why not make it accurate for those of us who do care?

Seems like after 4 episodes they have only made it 100 miles. Could take 6 seasons just to get to Montana.

The river scene didnt make much sense to me. It looked 5ft deep with no current. Little more than a stream. Half way up a wagon wheel from what I saw. The biggest obstacle was not knowing how to swim, but that seemed kind of pathetic.
I kept thinking if they just tied a rope and strung it from one side to the other, those folks could hold it as they waded through.
I just thought the portrayal was lousy all around.

Right before they crossed the river, Shea acted James to show him where the trench is in the river. James walked his horse out to the spot and Shea responded, "We have to keep to the right of that spot."
It's possible some did not head that instruction to their demise.

Just watched episode 5. Very good with surprises. I thought a lot better than 4.

Of all the ways to die on a trip like this, we probably just saw the best way.

Epi 5. Omg. McGraw was born for this role.

Started watching a few weeks ago. Faith Hill could be better but overall the show is really good. The only other issue is paramount being retarded with the timing of dropping episodes.

The Duttons were dumb asses. They had railroads back then.
Instead of taking a train for $150 each from Tennessee to get 90% of the way there, they instead went to Ft. Worth Texas first and then decided to make a very dangerous and long trek by horse that risks the lives of their children. All just to save whatever was in their wagons, I presume. Probably could have gotten some of that shipped. They didn't seem poor.
The Germans that had pianos and shite would have just taken trains out west. Lazy writing.

shite, the a-hole wagon master is killing them faster than the rivers. Lol. It's just fuvked up him abandoning people like that, punish them for stealing the food by starving them for a lil while, but just don't tell the people to get the fuvk, you basically sending them to their deaths. Those people don't know shite about the country or the predators out there.

Don't be a frickin thief. There is no room for restorative justice in a setting like that.
Oh and now I am back to having a chance...

I think if they ever made a Red Dead Redemption movie he’d kill it as John Marston. Every time I see him I picture John. Maybe he’s more Arthur Morgan but I definitely see John if he grows his hair out.

Issue I have about this latest episode is Faith Hill and the inconsistent writing.
She takes a very very progressive view to talking to her daughter about sex. "follow your heart" "I'm envy you". Doesn't really talk about the risks.
Daughter goes has sex.
"How could you do that?" "You're a woman now" "Have you thought about raising the child- im not doing it." "Will he stick around?"
Seems like all that could have been vented about while yall were rubbing titties in the river swooning over "love".

Lol yeah, I here ya, I blame that on the writers of the show, could have written that much better. But I really felt for that cowboy getting killed like that, damn, shot right through the heart after just getting him some. Lol

Knew ol baw would get it the second they started talking about babies and love.
How many seasons do they plan on making? Will we see Kansas by season 3? I guess Sheridan wanted to show what a wagon train looked like in real time.
One thing I think they’ve covered enough and can move on from for the rest of the season is the immigrants crying about how hard it is followed up by Sam Elliot cussing them out and leaving somebody behind. We’ve seen it 10 times in 5 episodes now.

Man some of yall complaining about some non-issues. It's starting to remind of those "let's overanalyze xyz" movie.
I love this series so much more than Yellowstone. Yeah it's slower but it hits you in the feels. If this series doesn't make you realize how much better we are being born in the era, I don't know what will.
And damn, they killed one of the most likeable characters in the series, just brutal.
