I don’t think the coaches and the admins are priming these brawls. Maybe I’m wrong on that though.

There are still ways to handle bullshite.

My FB coach had a personal rule he would enforce… if you get a personal foul flag, you would sit the entire next game. He stuck to his guns on that despite a key player having to miss an important game as a result, but he used it as a way to make the team rally to make up for the players’ absence.

Coaches either control attitudes or they don’t.

in my 8 years as a lhsaa basketball official the two worst fights were girls games

franklin at west st mary

northside at westgate

we were trained to get away, dont try to intercede and do not touch any players under any circumstances. it is up to admin, security and home game management to stop the fight

boys fights can be bad, girls fights are vicious and brutal

Averaging 1 brawl every 5 years as a school is pretty bad

I’d trade that for the championships they’ve been winning
ironic, 30 years later the coach that banished me from legion team(for dropping the guy that spat on me) and I ran into each other when the school he was principal at played my son's team. I sought him out and walked up and hugged him. He was astonished, he thought that I like the others on that team had been mad at me all those years for kicking me off team(which it cost the team dearly) I was instantly NO, I coached the same way DO THE RIGHT THING.... It was a huge life lesson for me. There is no room is sports for that BS.

LHSAA got this right.

No character and class = no playoffs.

If not getting taught how to be men while playing basketball, LHSAA is now your Daddy.

It seems to me that they got that under control pretty quickly: 10 seconds or so. The way started, I thought it would be much worse.

it's not being taught at home, largely because of a lack of daddies.

They should have banned them from having fans at the game for the rest of the year as well.

They only had one more game each that Lhsaa shut down.

I'm a GHSA official and agree that girls fights are way worse than boys fights. You are also correct that we as officials are trained not to get in the middle of it; let the teammates/admins separate the players and we notate numbers for the ejections afterwards.

I've seen kids lose college scholarships for getting into fights.

What other sports were they brawling in recently?

Several Zachary basketball players were involved in a fight either last year or the year before. It was at their gym during a tournament. I can’t remember who they were playing.

I was Lafayette Association
great group of guys, still talk to a bunch of them
I hung it up after the 2013 season when I moved
I got to the Sweet 16 in yr 8 and was on my way to getting to work the Top 28
gave it up because i didnt want to start over in Texas at 42
I should have kept going though
