Not much new in this article, but it's interesting that the WSJ is covering it. They compare the announced vs scanned ticket attendance of major conferences and list the scanned percentage at 96 individual schools (LSU not listed).
WSJ on CFB attendance
Navy is tops at 100% (they only announce the turnstile), with Coastal Carolina at 25%.
SEC schools listed:
Arky 57.9%
OMiss 59.3
UF 71.9
TA&M 72.6
UA 76.7
USCe 77.8
Aub 78.5
Mizz 82.8
UT 88.0

I was wanting to see FSU. Their attendance routinely looks horrible.

I haven't gone to a game since Ed O was hired. I don't want to go and boo, because these are college kids, so it's the way I can show that I'm mad at the choice. Does it mean anything on the grand scale, no not really, but I doubt I'm the only person in this situation.

Yep. Not worth the trouble.

South Alabama plays at an aging stadium mainly used for High School Football. It's a fricking dump.
Fortunately we will be getting our own field in the next few years.
We play La. Tech this Saturday night and I'm going but I'm really tired of Ladd.
it's a 40,000 seat stadium that may be half filled on a good night for our games.
the only time there was a sell out there is when we played Mississippi St. at home a few years ago. Dak Prescott was the QB for MSU.

Tally is a long trip from places like Tampa, Whorelando, and Miami.

I get to a few games a year. Won't be able to this year because of my business. But I definitely won't go to shitty games like this weekend.

Agree. Only reason to go to campus is to tailgate and catch up with family/friends, but it's a huge pain in the arse parking and getting out there. Was never gonna go out of my way to go watch the game in Jerry World this weekend and had other stuff come up.
Would be different if the potential and expectations for LSU weren't already reset higher over the past 20 years, and we were always going to be an also-ran program. Or if we were like a Nebraska type team and had structural disadvantages that can justify subpar results relative to history. But that is not the case with LSU so I'm not going to put out much effort to support the willful decision to go for mediocrity.

It's a problem for these schools that won't get any better without wholesale changes. Cheaper tickets, better parking, more options in the stadium for booze and food, etc.

really dont think theres anything schools can do. TV has just gotten too advanced and sitting at home and having watch parties inside ACd homes with those TVs that give you much better vantage points than you ever would actually at the game is just much more enjoyable than fighting traffic and crowds to sit in a 100 degree heat index 2:30 start for three to four hours

Probably. All day tailgating doesn't help either, it's much easier just to head to a house party or bar when you're already drunk then try to fight the crowd to get in the stadium. That's one advantage the Saints kind of have, most people just head somewhere to have a drink or two then head into the game

Guaranteed they have no clue about your personal strike. You do realize there’s literally thousands of people that are happily taking your spot?
You people and your “I’m mad at your decision so I’m not going to the games!” strikes are ridiculous. The football program profited $56M in your absence. I’m sure theyre sorry you didn’t make it.

It’s just much easier to stay home and watch it on TV. The parking, the crowds, all the TV timeouts, the length of the games. As you get older, you just don’t want to deal with the hassle. The big games will always sell out. But week to week, all sports not just college football have attendance problems

The sentiment ends up having an impact. Season ticket renewals were purportedly only down modestly this year, but could be in relative freefall (by LSU standards) next yr after LSU inevitably goes 8-4.

Me and a buddy of mine did the same thing, as have others that I know. Of course they still make tons of money. But that doesn't mean I have to contribute to that. The best way for me to show my unhappiness is with my wallet, and that's what I do.
It has nothing to do with me personally "fricking LSU out of money," but it's my sentiment as a fan. And if more and more people start to feel that way, you bet LSU will feel it financially at some point. Hell, maybe that $56 million will only be $54 million this year due to lack of concession sales because fewer people are at the games. It's the best way for people to show their displeasure with the program IMO.

I’d like to see the SEC’s numbers excluding G5 and FCS games

I live in a neighboring state and go to one decent LSU home game a year (used to attend 2-3). I enjoy it and get my fill of being there and tailgating with friends that one weekend. But the rest of the season...I'm in a leather chair with my feet on a leather ottoman, in the A/C, watching it on a 60" TV, using my bathroom and going to my fridge. With my truck parked in my driveway. And I get to bounce around to other games during halftime or timeouts. Comfort and convenience wins out everytime once you pass a certain age. Was around 38 or so for me.

what happens if orgeron and lsu are good this year? or next year? or whenever? are you going to hold to your stance that you aren't supporting mediocrity and not support the program?

This is the biggest issue IMO.
20 years ago you would know the time of every game before the season started and schools were good about not having games played during times of the day that you would melt from the sun. Once TV took over and started airing every game it became impossible to know what time your game would be played until the week before it was played and odds are a ton of your games are stuck at god awful times where you have a real chance of getting heat stroke.
