I love Flexseal as much as the next guy but I’m not gonna call it our Great Pastime

I think Willie was a little better than Aaron but if Willie was a 10.0, Aaron was a 9.9999999999999999999999999.
The difference between them is that Willie was a dervish of motion on the field while Henry was more relaxed looking although he was practically as dominant.
I think I may have told you this before, but Bill James the baseball analyst said Aaron never made the game seem harder than it was, that he showed up like a plant worker carrying a lunchbox, clocked in and simply hit the ball as hard and as far as he needed to hit it, caught the ball when he needed to catch it, threw the ball as hard and as far as he needed to, to the target he needed to hit, and ran as fast as he needed to on the bases and in the field. Then he picked up his lunchbox, clocked out and went home.

I can't disagree with any of that
If we're being honest, Aaron was 1A and Mays 1B in my mind, though you can't go wrong if you have them flipped.

Pinging off what I said about Mays and football, he messed up a few catchers at home plate. Pat Corrales when he was with the Phillies made the mistake of blocking home plate with Willie coming in from third, and supposedly Corrales, his hat, his mitt, his chest protector and the ball went flying five different ways.
Aaron was a tough mutha too, when he and Rico Carty had their famous midair fight, Henry threw a haymaker at Rico’s head and missed but his fist put a huge dent in the door to the overhead storage bin.

I had the honor of seeing him play a Spring Training Game in his last season playing for the Giants. He hit one out of the park that day.
Very cool. I got to see Barry Bonds play twice. Once in Wrigley in late May ‘98 right before Sosa went on his incredible June run. Bonds had a quiet game.
Then I saw him play in PacBell in September of 2000 during a pennant race, and Bonds hit two out. As you know I’m sure, Mays is Bonds’ godfather. So I sorta pulled for Barry even though he was a well known a-hole. But that’s why we go to the games… to see the star players hit the ball over the fence.

RIP Willie.
I saw him play several times in the Astrodome and had the chance to meet him a couple of times.
Truly one of the all time greats.

One of the all-time greats and a fine man. May he rest in peace.

Assumed he was already dead

Was at the Baron’s game tonight at Rickwood when the news hit. Fitting that he passed this week. Glad he was able to know about the tribute even if he wasn’t able to attend.

Mays was the first MLB player to wear a tapered uniform. Gone were the baggy pants.

This. Making it to 93 with the life he had, it’s definitely a blessing.

That guy was a legend. You can't grow up loving baseball without hearing about him all the time. RIP

It's always sad to see the passing of legends in any field. Especially in sports. For some it reminds us of our childhoods when we lived and died following them. In the case of Mays, he was probably a little before most of our times. But the way he was spoken of and the highlights......you knew you were looking at someone special...greatness.
93....it was a good life.

A lot of the greats from that era were fantastic football players. Mays , Mantle was offered a scholarship (Oklahoma?) and Jackie Robinson was an absolute terror as a RB in the 40s

Unbelievable player and career. He could do everything.

Always really sad when someone that is/was larger than life in a lot of ways passes, but it's funny seeing everyone posting "shocked" or "speechless" when referencing his death.
