I believe he'd been legally blind for a while. The last I saw of him, his eyes were milky white.

Other than Hank Aaron, he's the greatest baseball player who's ever lived.

Rest in power Say Hey Kid.

In a different time he might have played a different sport. He was a hellacious high school QB, was a jump passer like Harry Gilmer, it’s documented not anecdotal that he could throw a football 70 yards on the fly with accuracy and woe be unto any defender who tried to take him on one-on-one on something like a sweep, he loved contact.

Going to make Thursday pretty special. Mays grew up right near that park.

Ultimate 5-tool player. At 5-10 175, he hit 660 homers. He lost MLB playing time while serving in the Army; not to mention the would-be home runs he hit in Candlestick that cleared the fence, only to be blown back into the field of play due to the notorious swirling winds coming off the SF Bay.

The standard for center fielders. I can't tell you how many times I've heard some young player called " the next Willie Mays".

Not bad. But Ruth dominated during his time like no other baseball player in history….
