Fair.

But Ruth wasn't the 5 tool player that both Hank and Willie were, and to a lesser extent, Ted.

One of the all time greats in any sport. A name that transcended generations like only a few do.

Babe Ruth was a HOF caliber pitcher as well as hitter..

Young Ruth, the 6-2, 215-pound Ruth of the very early 1920s, could do a whole lot more than hit the ball over the wall.

Dude…. Ruth was one of the best
Pitchers in the game before he just focused on hitting… the only reason I have Ruth at #1 is because of how dominant he was over everyone else when he played. Aaron and Mays are all time greats…

He also served in Korea for two seasons at the start of his career- otherwise he would have made the 700 homer club

I know this.

And I'm not diminishing what he accomplished. He still is the most dominant player of any era in baseball history. But Mays and Hank possessed tools that he didn't and that puts them above him in my book.

Probably would have passed Ruth and pushed Hank.

Dies right after someone else made a similar catch last week of his catching a ball coming over his shoulders

How did he have 24 all stars in 22 years

There were two years where the MLB had two all star games.

ETA: correction, they did it for 59-62

The game at Rickwood Field Thursday night will serve as a fitting tribute to Willie Mays.

This is sad news but his life is to be celebrated. Not many players get a catch named after them. RIP to the best center fielder ever.

People (in the future) will talk about players like he and Ted Williams (and many others) like immortals for their service during the best years of their lives.

I had the honor of seeing him play a Spring Training Game in his last season playing for the Giants. He hit one out of the park that day.
