Sounds like the letter the University of New Orleans AD sent out over the summer before suddenly deciding to peace out of the job

Not really the same. Wichita is trying to raise money to compete on a perennial tourney team level. UNO is just trying to keep it's head above water as an athletic department and university.

I just got an email from Kim Mulkey asking for me to donate to the ‘collective’

I almost typed out a long email about how disgusted I find this type of panhandling, then realized I don’t even have the energy anymore to even give it that much thought.

Take out the sentimentality and nostalgia of college athletics and look at it purely as a business.

That seed was probably planted early in the morning of Nov 7 1869,

The big shift that came slowly was when the "big" schools started having more fans that never matriculated at the school and had no real ties to the educational side of the institution. While they have a love for the athletics side they have no nostalgia for the educational side.

When "student" athletes no longer have to meet the normal entrance requirements of a school it is similar to DEI. Merit for entrance to a college should have nothing to do with someones ability to play a sport. With this in place there is no nostalgia because the majority of athletes are not actually students. Not like us.

NIL and portal were just evolutions of the bag man game. When strong offers can be out in the open they naturally get more lucrative.

Bluebloods made it big business and now it is just a culmination of what they sought and wrought.

LSU’s first call the past 4 off seasons should have been to Greg Marshall.

Top CBB rosters next year ate poetically going to be around $10-15M.

A extra $1M for Wichita State isn't going to do anything for their program unless they find an ultimate diamond and try to retain him 1 yr before some program flush with $ like Duke, Michigan, Kansas, L'ville, Ark, Baylor, etc go after him.

I think it’s retarded in general when fans trip over themselves to fund these…but I guess at least with the big schools, people can delude themselves into thinking they’re helping to buy a championship…but at schools like this? More and more of these fan bases will completely check out

Imagine giving money for an 18 yr old kid you never met to drive a sports car. How stupid. Anyone who donates is a fool.

This. There is no argument for it other than “well now you don’t get to complain about it because you’re not doing your part!”

The Koch brothers liked Marshall quite a bit. They aren’t as sold on Mills. $1M can go a long way at a school like Wichita State. Some of the key contributors at even lower level schools are asking for $100k in NIL guarantees to transfer. You get 3-4 guys averaging 10 points and 5 rebounds at another school, you’re in a good spot.

They were successful in the early 2010’s because of talent identification and luck. No one thought Ron Baker would turn into the player he did. Van Vleet was a 3 star guy when WSU offered who rose in recruiting rankings the summer before his senior year after he had already committed. Carl Hall had heart issues that kept other schools away. Early had some grade and attitude issues that kept bigger schools away. They hit on every single guy in a 3-4 year stretch.

So they’re going to decide who gets brought in and not the coach

I want my team to win...............but I already buy season tickets and you asking me to give more..............just to put money in an 18/19 year olds pocket so they can get a new car/clothes,etc???
and then they’ll probably transfer the following season anyway. College sport’s greed and wild, wild west landscape is going to be its downfall.

The point was that they aren’t putting as much money to basketball as they were when Marshall was there. If they had that same relationship with Mills, the checkbook would open up.

But the coach didn’t have ice cream parties for the team after practice so they ran him off.

Notice he never got another job after Wichita state.
