Northern Ireland is not British. It is part of the UK though.
Tell someone in the Orange Order from Belfast that.

Can't believe you wouldn't consider Scotsman Andy Robertson of Liverpool, one of the best left backs in the world.

That's a bit of a sore spot for the English..... it's 1966.

Why does Great Britain compete in the Olympics as Great Britain…

Does anyone play cricket in the United States?

The Olympics called them Team Great Britain in the first modern Olympics and they're just sticking with it.
Even though, yes...it's not a country. UK (United Kingdom of Great Britain) would be more official and inclusive. See Northern Ireland, which is not part of Great Britain.
Fun Fact: you can fit 39 Great Britains in the US.

It’s a commonwealth of nations that make up the United Kingdom.

Another fun fact: post-Brexit, there are more UK citizens applying for Irish citizenship by blood than there are current citizens of Ireland!

Commonwealth is separate and under the King. United Kingdom is only the 4 countries and under the Prime Minister and Parliament.

Best for sure. I was going to say him but didn’t want to go back beyond the early 90s because then it would include guys like Dalglish and Ian Rush as well (but likely one legit starter at a time).
Robertson was definitely an oversight. He would definitely get starts in major games. Others like Craig Bellamy, Aaron Ramsey, etc would get games here and there but not major contributors imo.

It’s not political, it’s geography. Scotland, England and Wales inhabit the island of Britain. Northern Ireland is just that, a sort of gerrymandered portion of the North part of Ireland, and part of the United Kingdom.

They are building a big stadium outside Dallas and an American pro league is about to start up. I don't understand that sport but I have Aussie and English friends that love it. I gotta get them to explain it to me sometime.

Minor point, but I think you mean United Kingdom. Great Britain doesn’t include Northern Ireland.

Probably bc there’s a frick ton of different sports in the Olympics, and it’s harder to find enough athletes from niche sports to field a competitive Olympic team strictly from Wales, but soccer is a hugely popular sport with a lot more athletes to choose from?
There's no law saying you have to have participants in every sport in the Olympics. I seem to have missed the Brazilian bobsledding team and yet Brazil is still allowed to compete in the Olympics.
