But in the World Cup as four individual nations?

What’s the reasoning behind wales and England having separate World Cup teams but both contributing to Team GB for the Olympics.

Probably bc there’s a frick ton of different sports in the Olympics, and it’s harder to find enough athletes from niche sports to field a competitive Olympic team strictly from Wales, but soccer is a hugely popular sport with a lot more athletes to choose from?

It’s dumb if you ask me. GB would be a power house. Plus they wouldn’t need to steal African players like France.

Minor point, but I think you mean United Kingdom. Great Britain doesn’t include Northern Ireland.

Other than Gareth Bale and Ryan Giggs, two players separated by 15 years, pretty much no one from Scotland, Wales, or N. Ireland would have been a consistent starter for a United GB team.

They compete as Great Britain in the Olympics, not as the United Kingdom.

Robertson and maybe Tierney would get a shout at left back. Prime Ramsey would probably have started a few matches.

They compete as Great Britain (GBR) in the Olympics which may include Northern Ireland. Those athletes have the option to represent GBR or Ireland.

Consolidating them wouldn’t make them much better. Less than 5 outside of England would even be in consideration

And having separate FAs is vital to the people in Wales/Scotland/Northern Ireland. Their heritages have been eroded enough and they need to be able to hold on to something

You don’t get a belting of Yma o Hyd (“We’re still here”) under 1 FA

Who has England stole from African countries

It’s actually the other way around

African countries poaching English born players with African parents or grandparents

Northern Ireland is not British. It is part of the UK though.

The loyalist population in the six counties 100% consider themselves British

England already is a powerhouse, and nobody from Wales, Scotland or N.Ireland would be good enough to play for Great Britain. It would just be England players.
