Why is this a thread?

Who cares what a dudes hair is? Can he play? Yes? Great.

If no, tell him to cut it or cut him and move on.

I guess RR apparently ran out of Putin-fellating threads to post on the OT.

it's their hair ... why do you care what they do with their hair? ... is that part of fandom these days? ...

Most times the hair is extensions. You're right, it's their hair, they bought it.

This was told to me by a black hairdresser who does tons of extensions in her salon.

I expected much more racism in this thread, realized this isn't OT though after a sec.

I think it's incredibly stupid to have long, heavy arse dreads at the Combine when tenths of a second mean millions of dollars. Once you're in the league, do whatever you want. At the Combine though, my head would be shaved.

Please look up the difference between dreads (short for dreadlocks) and braided hair. I'm pretty sure ZERO nfl players have dreads.

The dred hair style is more popular in the south than in the north.

I think it would have been awesome if Chad Kelly had gone with the braids.

but to answer your question it's marketing for a lot of them. With helmets on it's very hard for a non-QB to stand out on the field. The most obvious way to be more recognizable is to have long hair coming out from under the helmet. It's not just dreads. Troy Polamalu and Clay Matthews have both used their hair to boost their respective Q ratings.

Then it must have sucked on plenty levels when Larry Allen pulled a fistful of Vernon Davis' dreads out during a scuffle

Helmets keep it from bouncing all over.

I imagine it would get annoying in basketball

This was my guess

I always thought it was funny that it covered their names. They do it to be noticeable but then you can't ID them.

My only issue with long hair both white and black is that it is legal to grab on to their hair to tackle them. It is considered like tackling them by their jersey.

The bigger question is: How bad do you think those dread locks smell during two a days?
