Why do so many football players have long dreds?

You don't see this at all in the NBA or even college basketball. My wife noticed this last night and it got me thinking. Is this all due to the David Stern dress code etc?

But I think dreads are the definition of trashy

This is a stupid thread (not surprised based on your illustrious history of threads), but to answer your question it's marketing for a lot of them. With helmets on it's very hard for a non-QB to stand out on the field. The most obvious way to be more recognizable is to have long hair coming out from under the helmet. It's not just dreads. Troy Polamalu and Clay Matthews have both used their hair to boost their respective Q ratings.

There are a lot more black NFL players (percentage wise) from the south than in the NBA. The dred hair style is more popular in the south than in the north. That's my analogy....

so you're asking why people want long hair? ... do you ask that of everyone with long hair? ... just football players? ... athletes? ...
it's their hair ... why do you care what they do with their hair? ... is that part of fandom these days? ...

You know how some white people like to have long hair? Some black people do, too. It's a stylistic choice based on the options you have. This is also why many Asian men went with the faux-hawk. Their hair is often straight but rigid. It's harder for them pull off a Don Draper look. It's just playing the hand you're dealt.

Yeah obviously some guys in the nba have it but it's much more prevalent in football. You've got to admit it

look at me, look at me.
they have helmets on.
NBA guys are visible. And yet, some of them have interesting hair.
RODMAN. "look at me, look at me".

Why? Dreads are trashy AF

Helmets keep it from bouncing all over.
I imagine it would get annoying in basketball
