Garrison Hearst. They surprisingly won a lot to a little

I have the best Garrison Hearst story from his time at UGA. We played the FB team in the intramural softball tournament; Hearst is on first base and I was playing first. I tutored G and Andre Hastings, so I knew him pretty well. Foul pop up about 15-20’ outside 3rd base and even with the base. G tags up, I yell Where you goin’?, he takes off and beats the throw standing up. Might be one of the most impressive athletic feats I’ve ever seen in person along with a 6’ high jumper take off from just inside the foul line and posterize a 6’10” D1 center.

Played against Austin Ainge, son of Danny Ainge, in high school. We were in the same district. I thought our team was pretty good right up until we played them for the first time. He made everyone else on the floor look like they had down syndrome. He was absolutely incredible.

It was one run on the error, not two. He didn’t cry like a baby. They had an at bat after he made the error. He went 3 for 3 in the game. He was classy way beyond his years.

Baseball - batted off Russ Davis (pitched for OM and the Cardinals). Whiff
Basketball - Eric Martin and Herman Fontenot in pickup games at LSU

Know he’s not an ‘athlete’ but played against Ludacris in varsity basketball as a sophomore.

Jacob Cutrera in his senior year before he went to LSU. There were a few plays where he was my blocking assignment and it was no different than running into a brick wall

edit: also played against Joe McKnight in my junior year. The speed he had was unreal.

Mine are all athletes I played against not in their best sport.

Nick Foles
Colt McCoy
Jordan Shipley
Ryan Swope

But played all of them in basketball, not football.

Golf I’ve played against Patrick Reed.

Kevin Youkilis. He was two years ahead of me in school. In a Saturday double-header he hit three homers and three doubles if my memory serves me correctly.

Played against Kolten Wong when he was at Hawaii. Had some pretty good moments with the Cardinals. The Fresno St. guys who won the title in 2008, although none of them had fame past college accept for Justin Wilson.
