re: Who in the NBA would you take over Anthony Davis?

Point is, there's about 7-9 guys that can do what Kyrie does.
CP3 and Curry are the PGs that bring something different to the table.
No one can do what Lebron, Durant, Davis do-- I'd toss in George and Love.
That's why you take them top 5-6 in a hypothetical redraft.

Roy Hibbert, Dwayne Wade, LaMarcus Aldridge,
you would take these 3 over AD?

Am I trying to win a title within the next 4 or 5 years? Then no.
Unless you get the first pick and take LeBron, you're probably not winning within the next 4-5 years anyway. Kobe, Wade, or Deron Williams sure as shite aren't going to put you over the team with LeBron, and by the time that LeBron fades those players will, too.
Everyone is forgetting the best center in the league Marc Gasol....

I'd want my franchise player to be an impact player on both ends. Durant is the only exception
Durant is far better on defense than his reputation suggests. He's made great strides on that end and in his passing the past 2 years. He's up there right behind LeBron not because he is only a great scorer, but because he is great at so many things now. He ain't Melo.

I wouldn't choose a PG
The PG thing is a fair point. Height still matters in this league. I just love both Paul and Westbrook and think they bring so much to the table despite being small.
Surprised no one has said Hibbert. He doesn't have the jaw dropping stats or play big minutes, but the guy is a legitimate force.

ETA: Also, the OP didn't discuss this in the context of starting a franchise. In that scenario, a young big with tons of talent and a huge upside is valued higher than current ability/production.

He's already done that this season.
Lakers game. He went off.

AD is a solid player so far... but can he be one of those players who can take over a game? Like Dirk did to the Rockets last night?
He took over the end of the first game vs the Lakers

Define "take over a game". Davis takes over games offensively and defensively. Not many players can say that.

He's probably the best of the "young" players.

So is Marc Gasol not the best center?

Who doesnt want a 7 foot center that can't rebound?

a) He's 20.
b) He's already done it this season.

KD, Kobe, CP3, Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Roy Hibbert, Dwayne Wade, LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love....
this list could take a while
You don't watch much basketball I see.

Jeremy Lin has already had a couple 30+ point games this season.
Doesn't mean he's Dirk or Durant.

I'd still take Howard over Gasol, I was laughing because espn was all over him as a top 10 player before the season started. That is ridiculous.
Posted on 11/21/13 at 10:45 am to Fun Bunch
Well there is no denying that Davis is the best young talent in the game...but I also get the sense that opposing players aren't necessarily bringing their A game when they play the Pelicans. Think about it, one night you're playing Howard and Harden on national TV, the next you're playing in front of a 40% filled arena vs the Pelicans. It's only natural that you would be more "up" for one of those games than the next.

Nope.
He isn't Rudy Gay putting up 20ppg due to volume shooting. Check out his TS%. Check out the SportVU player tracking stats- Davis pulls down a huge % of available rebounds and contested rebounds and he defends the rim as well as Hibbert.
