He probably doesn’t fit the “generational” mold, but Cortez Kennedy was so damn good and only went to the playoffs once in his 11 years with the Seahawks. Also, Dick Butkus deserves a mention.

Lions went to the playoffs six times during Sanders career. Granted they were mediocre teams, but that's not "wasted".

Barry Sanders made the playoffs 5 times in 10 years including an NFC title game but his career is pretty much fictional at this point.

If you’re looking for a generational talent absolutely squandered by Detroit, that would be Calvin Johnson
