Sidney Lanier Poets

That name and mascot is destined for the dustbin of history. Sidney played in the confederate army band as well as being a poet and the population the school now serves in Montgomery is not down with that so a new name is in the works.

I played a baseball game there (though it wasn’t against them) so not sure if that counts. They had the unicorn plastered all over the athletic facilities in all it’s glory

School Mac (and chipper) Jones went to in Jacksonville was orange and blue, but the bulldogs. I find this combo highly unusual

Also, another one from Wisconsin...Clintonville

The reason for their name is that the Seagrave brand of firetrucks is manufactured there and it is also the birthplace of four wheel drive.

Farmerville Farmers. Beat them in the semis in 1995 and ended up winning state!

Denham Springs was the yellow jackets, which isn’t weird, but their dance team was called the Jack-ettes

I thought Denham Springs had an appropriate mascot with yellow jackets.

Take out the middle words…. Denham Jackets.

I guess it was a slang term for a beat up crappy car (later called a jalopy), which was used in the 1920’s.

It blew my mind when we moved here and I saw that. My realtor laughed when asked if they play at the cotton bowl.

My high school was originally The Eagles. Our rival(s) would graffiti add a B to make us The BEagles on signs. Many times they would remove the capital letter E and make it look very artistic and real.

We actually went with it and unofficially adopted the Beagle mascot. You can change all the songs and chants pretty easily. I remember having a Beagles football jersey. We even had parents with Beagles bring them to games in dog jerseys.

Looks like we werent the only ones: LINK

The Deaf Leopards were a fun team to play in basketball. Crowd noise never got to them.

My son is a Rock-a-Chaw and I always thought the mascot was funny…yea they’re annoying, but they can’t really hurt you. I have no idea what it is in reference to, it’s not like the area has tons of those trees. I should know though.
