This wasn’t for high school but I lived in a city where this was the mascot for one of the major high schools.

The legend of the Hutto hippo traces its roots back to 1915, when a circus train stopped in Hutto to gather supplies and care for the animals. According to folklore, a hippo escaped from its keeper, running toward Cottonwood Creek.

The train depot agent reportedly sent the following message to nearby communities: “Stop trains. Hippo loose in Hutto.”

Not a school anymore because they’ve since combined with Port Sulpher and Buras to make South Plaquemines but the Bootheville-Venice Oilers

I've been involved with a few development projects in Hutto. You are required to provide a hippo statue for a permit to build. Every business typically has a hippo on site.

I played in a Jr. High baseball tournament with teams from several states and the Williamsport Millionaires were in the bracket.

The Hodags!

A good friend of ours growing up was a Hodag.

My ex-girlfriend grew up in Holland, Michigan (a very Dutch town) and their mascot was a wooden shoe. Can't find an image.

Also, another one from Wisconsin...Clintonville

Wisconsin also has one of those, in Kimberly. Not sure why they have a hornet on there.

Played them as well. Guess the White Oak Rough Necks is a local team fitting the thread. But we were the Buckeyes, so not exactly normal either.

Is it true that they were the Iron Eagles and the I fell off the building. So they just went with Roneagles?

It has always been my understanding that Iron Eagles was changed to Roneagles because the name was so commonly mispronounced as the Roneagles.

That is somewhat supported by Wikipedia which explains "A "Roneagle" or "Ironeagle" is a mythical bird fashioned after the American bald eagle however because of its solid iron constitution, it was stronger, swifter, larger and more resourceful than all other birds—a symbol of strength and courage meant to inspire the students of the school. This is the emblem and mascot of McDonogh 35 Senior High School; the "I" was later intentionally dropped to make it easier to pronounce."
