Fred Taylor graduated and he never had another running back with near as much talent. Fred picked up the first downs, got the dirty yards, picked up the blitz, and was an excellent receiver.

Without using the other position Spurrier played in college, kicker, name the position group with less talent than Spurrier's QBs. I know your retarded arse can't answer it

For all that tough luck, they did catch some good fortune when Arizona State shite the bed in the Rose Bowl.

Actually, the Texas upset of Nebraska had more to with it than the Rose Bowl. ASU lost to OSU, but that wasn’t shocking. (OSU was actually favored.) Nebraska losing to Texas as a 21 point favorite and opening the door for the Sugar Bowl rematch in the first place was the biggest piece of the puzzle.

People who witnessed that era can tell you nobody was more feared in college football and nobody could blow your doors off like Florida. Not saying they were overall better than those other elite teams of that era but they were more scary.

Negative.

Florida might throw the ball on you, but they weren’t going to physically kick the shite out of you.

How many people here (in their youth) would like to line up and see if they can cover Jerry Rice or Randy Moss? Sure, why not? Who wants to run tacking drills against Derrick Henry or Ray Lewis? Might decline that one.

Physicality causes fear in football. Florida wasn’t a physical football team under Spurrier.

I didn’t make the first statement so you’re resounding ti the wrong poster

You’re completely incorrect about the second and judging by your past comments on this era it’s safe to say you either didn’t witness it in real time or were too young to remember it as it was.

His gimmick offense elevated average players

But he never had the horses to win at the highest levels

You’re quite wrong on that one.

I have an SEC championship ring from the 1999 34-7 arse kicking of the Gators. I do believe we beat them twice that year, including in the Swamp.

They have the third highest point differential in the 90s behind two teams who played much weaker schedules and did that from scratch while the other two programs had been built and rolling prior to the decade. Sorry you’re just biased.

He coached football during the era of zero margin for error

Lose week 6 for your only loss. Might be it.

That and Tommy Frazier

Point differential has nothing to do with fear. Physical teams cause fear.

Fear is also not created by getting physically humiliated like perhaps no team ever has before in the Fiesta Bowl against Nebraska. It’s also not caused by letting Jerome Bettis trample your defense in the Sugar Bowl as a 6.5 point favorite.

Could Florida score? Yes, absolutely. But they were going to throw it over your head. They were going to kick your teeth in. The lack of physicality is why Spurrier only won one title and was lucky the stars aligned for that one.

He owned you guys too btw and you don’t get to frame my statement simply because you can’t disprove it. And guess you don’t remember guys like Eric Rhett and Fred Taylor. You have a very slanted, selective memory.

You can stop right there.

I was on the team from 1997-2000. We sucked much of that time, but we were 2-1 against the Gators.

There’s no “you guys” for anything else. The rest of the ‘90s, the Saban era, whatever. If I ain’t a part of it with blood and sweat, I don’t claim it.

Anyone can sit in the stands or watch TV.

No. It’s quite clear.

Florida was not a physical program under Spurrier.

In the 90s, Miami won one and played for another. FSU in 1993.

When I first started paying attention to college football polls in my youth, recall seeing Miami, Florida, and FSU all in the top 3.

6-3 in the 90s and again you don’t get to keep handpicking the stats you like and don’t like from my argument. Your 2 years or whatever you’re claiming isn’t the spurrier era or the 90s, you’re misrepresenting the entire topic for convenience and bias.

You said. “You guys.”

I didn’t have shite to do with any Alabama team Spurrier coached against but 1998 and 1999. I’m not a “we” and “us” person if I’m not on the team. I don’t take pride in being a spectator, and I don’t care if Alabama wins or loses every game.

Anyway, I don’t recall saying Alabama was the best team of the ‘90s. I did say that we smoked Spurrier’s arse twice when I was there, and I definitely know this era of football better than most here.

You said, “No one was more feared in college football than.”

Feared teams don’t just score a lot of points. They also tend avoid getting embarrassed. In the 1990s, Florida lost eleven games by at least 14 pts. and six by 20+. FSU lost three games by at least 14 and one by 20+.

Florida had a great run in the 1990s, but the most feared team? I wouldn’t go that far.

Wait...this is your reason for UF only winning one title under Spurrier? I think Taylor was easily the best RB of the Spurrier era but did you forget about Earnest Graham?

Jack Jackson was the best WR at UF in the 90’s.

The 1998 UF team was the biggest "what if" for Spurrier.

Only two losses, to both teams who played in the BCS NC (Tennessee and FSU). UF outplayed Tennessee in Knoxville that year, but had a few errors that essentially gave the game away. The 98 UF team was better than the 98 FSU team, but at that time playing FSU in Tallahassee was in Spurrier's head. They were just incapable of playing well there. Even his National Title team couldn't beat FSU in Tallahassee.

But you could argue, if UF plays either in the BCS NC, I think they would've beaten either Tennessee or FSU (especially with a backup QB). The 1998 UF team had the nastiest defense in the Spurrier era.

2001 UF might have been Spurrier's best offense, but the defense was mediocre. Remember that UF and Miami, with essentially the same teams, had played in a bowl game the year prior and Miami dominated. No one was beating 2001 Miami.

2001 they didn’t lose a game Earnest Graham played in. Needed that RB threat and balance.

Completely disagree. Earnest Graham was a fricking stud. Didn't play in either loss in 01.

thought he would have been more successful in the NFL. Maybe he went to the wrong franchise and could have been better elsewhere.

He was lazy. He wasn’t willing to put in the time required of an NFL coach. The highly successful ones are film room rats working insane hours. Spurrier preferred being on a golf course more than coaching and his ego led him to believe his offensive strategy was more than enough to succeed.
