That depends on who you're asking.
As an Alabama fan, I feared Florida more than I feared Florida State in the 90s because we played them just about every year that decade.
1990: Loss
1991: Loss
1992: Win
1993: Loss
1994: Loss
1995: Didn't Play
1996: Loss
1997: Didn't Play
1998: Loss
1999: Win (x2)
We finished 3-6 against Spurrier and the Florida Gators in our nine games against them. Florida State wasn't as scary because they weren't in our conference.

It's a good thing your opinion is one of one. Why should I have feared Florida State as an Alabama fan in the 1990s? It's not like we were playing the same sport. Florida State was in a different conference and was such a vastly superior program, the only way we'd ever meet them was in the national championship or in a prestigious New Years Day bowl game. And the only way Alabama would ever get to either one of those games was by getting past Florida in the SEC Championship Game - something we only did twice in five attempts (six if you count 1991 where they were our only loss of the season).
So yes, for that very reason Florida was the scarier team for me and many other Alabama fans, even if they weren't on the same level as Florida State's football program.

Because we’re obviously talking national level football, not any one program or conference’s bogeyman.
UF did not have the most successful program of the ‘90s nor did they have a reputation for knocking opponents around physically.
I like to give detailed reasons for why I believe what I do, and that often requires criticism of teams, players, and coaches that are otherwise quite good - just not flawless.
UF had a great program in the ‘90s, but were they the most feared program in the nation during that era?

Yes, they were. Not sure what Globetrotter is going on and on about. Florida might not have been the MOST feared, but they were top three every year. For sure the most feared in the SEC. I think only Vandy played them within one score in SEC play between 95 and 96. Florida will strike fear in opponents again with Sumrall.

What the frick did the person say? He said the most feared program in the country. Not top ten. Not top three. The most feared program.
I gave reasons why I don’t believe that’s true - mainly that at least two other programs in the ‘90s (FSU and Nebraska) were more successful and had a higher level of physicality that plays even more into the fear angle.
If someone says Peyton Manning is the GOAT QB, and you explain why you think he comes up short against Brady or Montana or whoever, that doesn’t mean you think Manning was a bumbling idiot who was lucky just to be in the league.
Damn.
