But watch out for this. If the loser of the OSU/UM game (especially if it's Michigan) stays ahead of LSU in the penultimate CFP rankings
Almost no chance Michigan stays ahead of LSU.

Why would they care about ratings? The contracts have been done. ESPN already has their money

Sure there is.
Let's assume the new rankings Tuesday night go something like this:
1. UGA
2. OSU
3. UM
4. TCU
5. USC (jumps LSU because of the win against UCLA)
6. LSU
Now, let's say UGA, OSU, TCU, USC, and LSU all win. But OSU beats UM in a 42-38 type game, and LSU unfortunately has a 31-24 type game with Aggie. The committee could very easily decide on this going into CCG weekend:
1. UGA
2. OSU
3. TCU
4. USC
5. UM
6. LSU
If LSU stays ahead of USC this weekend, then it's less likely that Michigan would stay ahead of LSU in that scenario, because you'd only be dropping them 1 spot unless they move USC up after consecutive Top 25 wins.

How is UCLA a good win? They lost to a 4-7 Arizona team!
Posted on 11/20/22 at 9:10 am to Sevendust912
USC lost to a Utah who lost to a Florida team that was dominated by LSU
USC barely beat UCLA who lost to Arizona that was dominated by Moo St
LSU in over USC

In your scenario, LSU is out imo
But that’s pretty unlikely. USC or TCU will trip up, or LSU won’t best Georgia. Really unlikely all of this shakes out that way. I get it’s a hypothetical, probably don’t need to worry about it though.

If LSU beats Georgia then it will be
1.OSU
2.LSU
3.TCU
4. Georgia
They won't leave the defending champions Georgia out.
Ohio State gets the 1 seed but has to play Georgia. Georgia wins. LSU beats TCU(especially if their 3 best players are still out).
Then Georgia beats LSU for championship.

No way in hell does LSU end up #2 over an undefeated TCU.
Best case for LSU is probably the #4, with UGA at #3 if OSU and TCU are undefeated.

LSU has 2 bad losses but they were earlier so let's see where the teams are today.
Is losing by 1 (on a blocked XP as time expired) at a neutral site to a 9-3 team that finishes top 15 that bad of a loss?

The FSU loss isn't so awful looking now that FSU has been playing well. Tennessee is looking pretty bad though.

OSU
TCU
LSU
USC
Clemson is out, as is Georgia, Michigan, Bama.

LSU would move ahead of them with a Georgia win the following week, however.

I think an OSU loss by 3 points probably keeps OSU ahead of LSU as they have wins over ND and PSU which are looking better as games go by.
So that's the scenario I think where things get interesting

quote:It's probably a lock that USC jumps us next week for this very reason. It allows the committee to keep the option on both. If it's LSU above USC, then they simply won't jump us if we beat Georgia. So Yea, USC will go into the title games ahead of LSU assuming they win next week.
They committee is going to put themselves in a difficult spot. LSU may be #5 this week, unless they jump USC over LSU (very possible). Either way, LSU is likely #5 going into the CCGs with either Ohio State or Michigan losing. If they beat UGA in the SECCG, I don't see how they aren't in the playoff.

South Carolina opened the door for LSU yesterday. Still might need a Clemson loss, but they have a chance now.

If TCU and OSU stay undefeated, they are in. No questions. Ithink looser of big10 is done.
If USC wins out, I think they get in but think they will drop one.
My take, commitee is throwing out the FSU loss or LSU wouldn’t be ranked where they are. So, if LSU beat UGA, I think they will treat that game as a playoff game and UGA is out.
If LSU moves up to 5, no way LSU doesn’t go to 4 beating UGA.
USC gets the nod over UGA for beating Utah , ND, and pac championship if they win out.

The committee has shown over the years that they value conference champions heavily.
If LSU goes to Atlanta and beats UGA (provided LSU doesn't lose to aTm), they are in.
