What do you think the real reason they stopped calling traveling in the NBA?

Every time I look up, someone is “gathering” and then taking three to four steps on a break.

Is there a reason they changed this rule? It’s not like these guys can’t dunk after two steps.

Not calling carrying is a much bigger problem than not calling travelling.

I just saw Jason Tatum take 4 steps from the 3 point line without dribbling. No lies.

And why is it a sensitive subject with NBA fans?

They don’t call traveling because it takes away highlight plays.

Nobody wants to see a monster dunk called back because of traveling.

I watched Golden State vs Dallas earlier today and I said out loud “that’s a walk” at least 10 times during the game. Oh well.

David Stern stopped it being called in the 80's and some say it was to highlight Michael Jordan.

But, "they don't call traveling anymore" started in the 80's.

Traveling calls are no fun.

Drives to the basket are fun.

The rules are now being enforced for fans that want TD passes and slum dunks on every play

I'll help you out since they don't believe and obviously dont keep up with the NBA enough to know the league is trying to rid of this narrative.

NBA works to tighten traveling calls

quote:

Traveling will be an emphasis this season for officials, who are determined not to allow offensive players to gain an extra edge by taking an extra step.

Like with every league in the beginning of a given season, the refs usually focus on a couple of points and go overboard to enforce them. Traveling is what they are focusing on and they have been calling it at a pretty good rate.

I’m trying to figure out where holding the basketball like a football and running to the hoop like a running back became a okay thing?

Nostalgia is a dangerous thing. The same people that hate the NBA today loved it in the 80s when "they played real defense and called traveling."

Magic Johnson (not Jordan) was the one who they started looking the other way on traveling back in the EARLY 80s. It just continued with Jordan.

Take 4 steps that end in a highlight reel dunk for ESPN? not a big deal

Get a little shuffle-happy with your pivot foot during a post move? We're calling that this year baw!
