NBA rivalries: Lakers-Celtics, Bulls-Pistons, Knicks-Celtics,Sixers-Lakers,Sixers-Celtics, Spurs-Rockets-Mavs, Spurs-Lakers,Bulls-Knicks, Spurs-Heat, Pacers-Bulls, Pacers-Knicks, Cavs-Bulls,

Sonics-Blazers was a big one.

I think after 4 straight Finals, Cavs-Warriors will be one, although today it’s dead, future Cavs/Warrior fans will circle this one on the calendar.

I know we're biased, but I think Falcons-Saints is criminally underrated nationally. We all hate each other.

Despite the Finals rematches, I don't view these as rivalries. The respective fanbases will remember the matchups, but it won't really bleed over into future long running animosity.

Miami barely registers for us when they visit SA these days, and I highly doubt the Spurs generate any rivalry buzz when we visit south beach

Cavs/Warriors will be similarly unremarkable in short order, I believe.

I’ve actually been thinking about my response because I knew someone would challenge this likely a Spurs fan, likely you. Lol.

Sometimes fires simmer down. I’ll argue the finals loss to the heat Will forever be a thorn in the spurs side. Ditto for the heat. Rivalries can be renewed with one simple log added to the fire. For instance, if Pat Riley worked some salary cap magic and signed you know who... that will obviously ramp up the rivalry to significant level. Obviously relevance of contention matters a little more in the NBA then other sports. You can bet with a little roster tweaking there would be plenty of montages before the games of classic battles

I will concede that interdivision and interconference rivalries Are more likely to achieve sustainability

Interesting. For some reason I thought the browns were their main rival

The Browns main rivalry has always been the Steelers. It's the oldest in the AFC.

I'm sure the animosity has cooled for younger folks, but they used to play on Saturday nights when my dad was a kid and the Steelers began to even the series.

Well said. I did fail to account for mitigating future circumstances rekindling a dormant rivalry. I cede that point

Familiarity breeding contempt, and all that Jazz.

Speaking of, it's actually funny to me how many younger Spurs fans don't know how heated Spurs/Jazz was back in the day. Guess basketball rivalries tend to be more transient depending on personnel, like you said

I had no idea how much bad blood was in that one until I lived in Chiefs country. People would see me wearing silver and black Spurs gear and start raising their hackles thinking I was a Raiders fan. It was nuts

I think most people nationally just don't know this rivalry exists. But it also has meant almost nothing to the national landscape of the NFL. It rarely means anything outside of New Orleans and Atlanta so that probably has a lot to do with it. I had no idea those teams were rivals until I moved to Louisiana 6 years ago.

I really can’t think of any nfl rivalries that mean much to anyone outside of the teams’ cities at this point. DAL/NY teams obviously get the best ratings but having lived in NY I think NYG fans care much more about NYJ than any other team.
