Looked to me like the USC player was already going in for the hit by the time Moore decided to slide. Celebrating afterwards was tPOS behavior regardless.

I think the defensive player wanted to put a good lick on the QB. I don’t believe he meant to paralyze him. But the celebration post hit certainly makes him look like a TPOS. I don’t think he could’ve avoided the hit though once the QB started his slide.

I HATE targeting and how we expect defensive players to defy physics to avoid hits.

But in this case, the answer is yes.

He had roughly .281 seconds to pull up

Do I think he could have avoided this? Yes. Do I think it’s difficult to do this when you are thinking hit hit hit tuning 20 mph and someone else running 20 mph to make this decision to then not hit this fast ? Yes

Well, the forearm shiver was certainly avoidable.

That said, the QB slide has probably gets more guys hurt in this scenario than it protects. The rule should be changed.

Should have slid sooner.

Use the stopwatch on your phone and see how fast .3 seconds is.

You probably can’t even consistently use your finger to stop the watch at .3 seconds every time.

Now imagine trying to change your entire body in that short of time.

The outcome is driving the narrative. It sucks the kid got hurt and it’s shitty the kid celebrated after the hit. But it doesn’t mean it was a dirty play

ETA: and the .3 seconds doesn’t account for processing time. That’s just the time to close the distance. It’s a completely ridiculous expectation

This. When a QB waits until the last possible second to slide, you end up with hits that are unavoidable because for all the defensive player knows, he’s going to try and run him over. USC’s DB could’ve probably pulled up on that one though.

You are ignoring the entire premise that the defender has a known good assumption the qb is giving himself up at the first down line

He could have easily avoided the forearm shiver that put this dude in the hospital. He may have caught the top of his helmet and still gotten a flag and ejected, but he was absolutely trying to blow him up.

He could have. Insanely dirty play. He had at least 4 yards to avoid the hit. Frick USC I hope they lose all their remaining games.

You are 100% correct because that’s exactly what he is taught to do on a qb in the open field. He had roughly .281 seconds to change that thought and instead try and avoid contact. I personally think that isn’t easy to do.

I think his actions after the hit were way worse than the hit itself

The reaction seems to be what has people really wound up.

We’ve seen that play multiple times through the years with much less outrage.

Yeah because QB’s never try to truck defenders, hurdle them, or take advantage of them “letting up” when they expect a slide.

The QB slide rule should be eliminated. If you take off running that’s your decision, if you don’t want to take a hard hit then don’t be a runner or heck don’t play football at all.

Can we stop acting like it’s 2010. He knows when the QB goes to slide to not go in with his helmet. Sure he had no time to pull up but to launch himself in helmet first is not what he is taught. Then to top it off his attitude on the sideline was disgusting.

Maybe, maybe not.

His actions afterward is telling though. He’s a thug POS and so is every player that dapped him up.

Thats what SC thought they needed to do to win I guess. They couldn’t even beat a team down on themselves with a backup QB at home. Thats how sad SC is.

Every big time local recruit at the game just realized SC isn’t the place to go if you want to be a winner.

No one is saying he shouldn’t have touched him, but he absolutely tried to take the kill shot. And no, they aren’t taught to do that.

It was a very late slide. A hit was unavoidable.

Celebrating Moore's reaction is what's bringing the heat.
