So if it's so easy for the defender to avoid it, why so hard for the QB to make a split second dumbass decision to avoid sliding into a collision?

If your mindset before the slide is “let’s be gentle”
But now imagine your mindset is “kill a mother fricker kill a mother fricker”. It’s like that plane movie with tom hanks. You and others are watching the video with the thought “can I pull up”. That’s having preliminary thought of wanting to avoid the hit. That isn’t how it works in real time
You are throwing a fastball. Then at the last second before you throw someone yells, “don’t throw”. How is that going to look? Pitchers get mad when batters call time when they have only barely started their windup

Ok mingo. You are hitting a 9 iron. You are in full swing and .3 seconds before contact someone yells “don’t hit the ball”. How’s that going to work out?
The QB started his slide extremely late because be wanted to still try and get the first down. That was his choice and it led to him being hit
If you don’t want to be hit you need to give up the first down like leavitt did last night

Not the same at all, but would probably shank it which was all the defender had to do. Instead he purposely took a kill shot

They’re working with a different set of assumptions than defenders are.

Moore had all day to slide before he would have been even close to being hit. But he wanted to stretch out trying to get the first down. That’s his choice but at the point he chose to slide he should not have. He should have taken on the hit or dived head first to the side of the defender

Why are you laughing? If you want to fight for the first down you shouldn’t slide feet first or you are very likely to end up like Moore
You either slide short of the first or be a football player and try and get the first down

But I think I could keep from even making contact with the ball. But the point is solid. Defender just needed to avoid driving through the hit. We see it all the time.

The hit is Moore's fault. He slid way too late. To get the protection of the slide, you have to be deliberate. He waited too long. The dude could have pulled up a bit, but the hit itself was justified.
His reaction afterward removed all doubt about his intent. He was committed to knocking him the frick out. If he didn't react like that, I don't think he gets tossed.

Yeah I’m holding up
Mind you we can’t just have someone randomly yelling stop in an otherwise normal game of golf where the golfer has absolutely no clue this is a possibility and nothing else at all to key off of.
I’d very easily not complete this swing, though. And to Mingo’s point, I’d only need to avoid a normal swing and compressing the ball with a nice finish.
