There is actually an incentive to be in a conference starting in 2024. Don't know if that's enough to force their hand though.

What would be enough is if the B1G instructed its members not to schedule Notre Dame. And if NBC gets great ratings from its B1G slate that they don't need Notre Dame any more. B1G media deals are already more than ND is getting.

Oh right, the "block bloc" which was supposed to keep Texas out of the conference as well.

When they applied, the vote was unanimous to let them in. Even Texas A&M voted yes (and that was supposedly against their best interests).

Money talks, bullcrap walks. If FSU and/or Clemson want in, they're in.

The SEC literally hid the Texas move from A&M until it was already done so they had no choice

Notre Dame is in a good place, signed a $1 billon deal with Under Amour this week. Top deal in NCAA, over $100 million a year for 10 years.

With the SEC now at 16 teams this doesn't really exist anymore.

The deal is reported to be a 10-year contract worth over $10 million per year. Dellenger noted that if his intel is correct, it would vault Notre Dame to the top of the list in terms of apparel dollars. All the other deals mentioned by Dellenger - including Ohio State, Texas, Michigan, Nebraska, Louisville and Kansas were either Nike or Adidas schools.

The Mountain West and the PAC have to merge at this point and they should just keep the PAC name. I doubt Stanford wants to be in a conference with Boise though

Stanford can try and move. May actually work.

Cal, if they stay at FBS, likely ends up in a conference with Boise or Baylor. If either will have them.

[Thamel] Sources: The Big Ten’s presidents met early Thursday morning and authorized Commissioner Tony Petitti to explore expansion and bring them back more information on Oregon and Washington as potential Big Ten members. No offers have been made, and a deal is uncertain. There’s a political thicket with the potential additions because the moves don’t offer the current Big Ten schools any additional money. USC doesn’t have a vote, but they’ve been vocal in the past about not wanting other West Coast Big Ten teams.

Oregon and Washington would also have to come to terms with not getting a full share, which isn’t a slam dunk for them. There's potential, but significant road blocks remain.

Hadn't heard this before. Is it something they're firmly against or is that more of a "we wouldn't like it but whatever" kind of attitude?

Depends who is left and how much money is available to go around. Plus what some schools bring to the table if you have to make choices.

Arizona brings basketball. Arizona State brings football. Utah brings football. Wazzu and Oregon State don’t bring much of anything and they are way off in Egypt compared to Utah and Arizona.

The only escalator expressly spelled out was for Notre Dame.
