It's not shocking that a school like ULL loses money.
what's more shocking is a school like Arizona losing money.

Have you stepped foot in a LSU classroom lately, or even the library. It’s honestly disgusting that the “Flagship” school of Louisiana is allowed to operate with the state of those buildings.

Maybe if the state wasn't pissing away funding on athletics at regional institutions like ULL, LSU would have enough money for capital improvements.

They hired a garbage HC for less money and are now seeing the results.

You're not wrong. At all

I still can't believe they are renovating the stadium. Half of it is now demolished and it could stay that way and still be empty on game day.

That's been in the works for the last 10-12 years. Way before said coach was hired

LSU 'lazy river' the ultimate higher-ed wasteful indulgence, Wall Street Journal commentary says

You can't be serious. Even when you push for private funded projects, you build lazy rivers. Maybe focus those efforts on better library upkeep and piping in your engineering building.

So where does the money go that the RCAF raises?

So the State is only supposed to have 1 4 year public university? I know you could thin out some schools, but trust me, LA Tech, UL and Southeastern are not the reason LSU’s campus is aging and not having adequate funds for renovations. LSU really has some soul searching to do in the next 20 years, because academically, things are not looking good for my alma mater.

What's the value? How many people are flocking to USL because they played on the ESPN app?

Most schools from FBS to FCS make a profit from football.

The massive losses is from the other sports which football as well had to subsidize.

Nobody is going to mention LSU lost $9M two years ago on athletics?

But the Cajuns operate in a deficit the world is ending.

Also, LaTech does operate under the same rules, they just don’t have the other revenue streams to cover the deficit.

You spent 38 million and went 8 million over. LSU has a 200 million dollar budget. If they matched your overage they would have blown their budget by 40 million.

Wrong. Your school is just skirting the rules on the percentage of support that can come from the university.

There is no 3D chess here. You guys are in for some serious financial pain

University of Louisiana athletics operated at a $5.3 million deficit for fiscal year 2022,

So are they talking about the entire UL System? Because that’s the only thing that name could possibly be referring to.

The worst piece of these reports is they rarely, if ever, account for the value of the national media/marketing exposure due to national vs. cable vs. online. So when they say an athletic dept. or school "lost" that money, it's disingenuous.

No, because people nationally assume LSU or Duck Dynasty University of Louisiana in Monroe. Should just rebrand as “Ragin’ Cajun.”

Are we though? Because we’ve been financially operating this way since Mark Hudspeth arrived.

The main difference is COVID years and replacing Napier with Desormeaux. Not to mention that Bob Marlin can’t sell 1500 season tickets. Football didn’t break 8,000 season tickets either.

We’ve been at roughly $33-$38M with the budget for a decade. We are down 4500 season tickets in football since 2020.

RCAF membership is decreasing as well, the university does the bare minimum to succeed. Near zero engagement with fans, there’s many reasons for the deficit. It also gets covered by other self generated funds from the university, not “tax payer money”.

But please go cry on the rooftops. Every public 4 year university in the UL System is at an extreme disadvantage compared to peer institutions. ZERO student fees for athletics have been passed. Where most SBC/CUSA/AAC programs get 50% or more of their athletic budgets from student fees.
