Eliminate the slide, don’t eliminate the slide.

Either way, it was a cheap shot.

End of story…

Yep. Let's eliminate cheap shots. I say a first step would be to not break up the fight that could have happened between him and Scherff way after the play. BTW, WTF was Al-Shairr so incensed about at that point? The idea that he had any sort of righteous argument to make is absurd. I was Scherff had crippled him.

that's really simple to fix, a fake slide is a penalty loss of 10 yards from the spot of the fake, there that problem is solved.

Or just treat it like a fair catch... if you even look like you are signaling for a fair catch, the ball is down where you catch it.

If you begin the slide movement, play is over and you are down right there.

But... Al-Shaair needs to be gone for a few games. No excuse for what he did... at all.

Hope you enjoy watching Ian Book vs Nathan Peterman… by week 10 you’d lose pretty much every starter in the league
Are, we could run the ball more in the league. Funny how the QBs use to get obliterated and didn’t miss much. Softer era

Keep it for the cerebral QBs like Cousins and Stafford but eliminate it for the athletes like Lamar and Jayden.

This is going to sound crazy, but eliminate forced fumbles.

Defense don't try and tackle anymore because they are trying to knock the shite out of someone hoping they lose the ball. Take that incentive away and players start worrying about fundamental tackling like they did before all this armor.

Missing easy tackles because someone is trying to make a highlight reel pisses me off to no end.

Any player can slide and is protected. What the hell does that have to do with QBs?

Yeah the play is dead in the NFL when a player is touched down by contact OR gives himself up. Players do it all the time at the end of games when they get a first. If a running back slide in a normal play though people would flip their shite about it. QB’s just get a pass.

Rex Ryan’s Opinion

quote:

Rex Ryan: "I am so sick and tired of seeing people teach, 'Hey, slide. When you're running out here, you slide.' To hell you do. Not when you're going full speed down the field and the defender's coming full speed at you... they should be taught to dive at the ankles of the defender or run the football and keep your head out of it."

No, massive overreaction those type of hits are ultra rare now. No need to change anything.

The rule doesnt only apply to QBs but how many times have you seen non QB players sliding before a tackle?

They would be booted off the team. Eric Dickerson was mocked in his prime for always finding the sideline to avoid hits. When he got a job as a sideline reporter, everyone said....makes sense.

If every QB in this league wants to be a running back, then you have to take the licks running backs do.

The slide is guess so football and corrupts the game. Miyagi: Walk on road, hmm? Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later…get squish just like grape....either do football yes or do football no....guess so?, get squished like grape.

I mean...if you look at the play in question on YouTube, and watch it frame by frame, the defender led with his hands on the hit. It was his forearms that (mostly) made contact with Lawerence's chest, forcing his head hard into the turf. There was some helmet-to-helmet contact, but not enough for me to consider it malicious.

Once a QB passes the line of scrimmage, it should be on.

F sliding. Josh Allen faked a slide against Pittsburgh in the playoffs last year. Sunk his hips, Steeler let up. Allen TD.

Don’t want to get hit?
Kneel behind line of scrimmage.

They get a different whistle… they’d slide too if they’d get an automatic 15 for a bad hit,

QBs would be more cautious, defenses would change. We'd get back to better pocket passing play.

Pocket pass plays are the best part of the game. I wish the rule was: if WRs run a route, QB cannot run. The entire game would be more enjoyable to play and watch.

Right now, running QBs pretend to be passing, they wait for the DB to chase WRs running deep routes, then the QB out runs the big lineman and gets a free 10 yards. It’s stupid.

That and make any half-assed/delayed/non-deliberate slide (which TL's was, in all honesty) lose all protection and "defenseless" protections.

Same with sidelines.

The offensive player either has to commit or it doesn't count and it's open season.

I'd have more sympathy for the defender and think this is a bang-bang type of play, but this is the second time the guy has done it this year and the third time going back to last season.

At this point it's obvious that the guy is going for the killshot on QB's when they slide.

No such thing as half pregnant. He wanted the 1st down and he wanted to slide he should have choose 1 or the other. Either lower your shoulder like a runner and go for the 1st down or slide earlier not 2 yards away from the guy coming downhill at you full speed
