It's ridiculous that stadiums are obsolete in such a short amount of time.
Built to dazzle, not built to last.

Hence why I think the Braves will start looking for a new place around 2040 or so.

It's a fantastic stadium! This is unreal to me...what A total waste of taxpayer money. That park is easily one o f the beat I've been to and I've been to all the famous NE stadiums. It even looks great on tv. If they want a retractable roof, just figure out a way to put a canopy or something a la Seattle Mariners stadium for 1/3 the cost of a new stadium. This one really pisses me off.
The Mariners roof just protects Safeco Field from rain, but it is not climate controlled. The Rangers need climate control during the summer to get more fans off the couch and into the park. Modifying an existing stadium and adding a retractable roof and climate control for a stadium that was not designed with it in mind is pretty pricey. One poster said it would cost ~$500million to renovate the existing stadium. It is a waste of $$$, but if you want a pro sports team in your town today you have to pay.

It's pathetic that it has come to this.

Just in time for the next wave of nostalgia and a move back in town.
The real irony of it is the ATL population has been moving back in town for a while now, and the Braves are reversing the trend.
Almost every iconic stadium in MLB right now has an urban backdrop with the skyline view, and the Braves are opting for office parks.

Retractable roofs are the biggest boondoggle in stadiums. Fans nearly always want it closed. It is just an added expense and maintenance nightmare.
The Vikings and Rams made the smart choice of using a glass or some kind of clear membrane roof instead of a retractable roof.

Rangers do not need a new stadium

And it's quite chilly even in June or July for night games by the late innings. The two games I've been to had the roof open.

Rangers Ballpark isnt obsolete, its really nice as long as its not 95+ degrees. It needs a roof, and its apparently more cost efficient to build a new stadium than retro fit a retractable roof on the existing building.

Ranger just need more night games during the summer months. No 12:00 pm games

the "hang-up" being the same reason the "northern based" fans to whom the Braves are now catering were scared to go in town in the first place
I can't say for certain that holding out on MARTA didn't help those communities.
From 400 to 75 is about the only segment of suburbs that hasn't taken a nosedive in the last 10 years. Of course, places like Fayette County didn't want MARTA either, and they're not faring so well.

Sure, some old stadiums weren't used for as long, but they were built with tax dollars exclusively for one team. Wasn't Arlington Stadium originally a minor league park, and they added on? So the investment wasn't as big as it is with the current stadium.
I give Atlanta a slight pass because it was used for the Olympics, but Atlanta has its own issues, as the Georgiadome is a fine facility. It's the era of screwing taxpayers, but why? Are we so pampered as a society that we need shopping malls, massive big screens, and gourmet food to enjoy a game?
There are only 10 current stadiums older than The Ballpark and 13 older than Turner Field. They seem relatively new but they are 2 of the older parks in baseball. They have to keep up with the Joneses.

A huge snag in the talks was the city owns every parking lot around the TED. That's a ton of lost revenue for the team.

Everyone in the comments section of that article was screaming to be put in downtown Dallas, my question is exactly frickin where? Uptown is uptown, Deep Elum is going through a revival, the only other place I could think of is south of the 35/30/75 clusterfrick

What would've been the solution? Give them the lots?

Sounds like Rangers fans are just pussies like their players or whatever.
The same people who lament about the Pussification of America want taxpayers to fork over a billion dollars because they don't want to perspire.

Estimated cost is $1 billion to be split 50/50 between the Rangers and the city. Voters would have to approve it on November 8th.
Eta: the area surrounding the park in those renderings is a previously planned area called Texas Live. A mixed use entertainment district that the Rangers have some level of ownership in
