re: When did Superbowl parties become a thing?
Posted by LL012697 on 11/17/25 at 10:35 pm to West Palm Tiger561
I was a kid in the 80s and I don’t remember it being a huge thing but that could just be because I was too young to remember it. I would say early 90s is when it really became a cultural event with the commercials and the halftime show and that started lending itself to parties because it started to have “something for everybody” instead of just being a big football game. More specifically, Michael Jackson’s halftime show in 1993 kinda introduced the halftime show being a “thing” rather than just something to pass the time during the break. Before that I remember it being marching bands and shite
re: Are the Carolina Panthers a contender or pretender?
Posted by LL012697 on 11/17/25 at 2:51 pm to VolsOut4Harambe
I would say pretender as of now. Their signature win was on the road against the Packers, but the Packers are way too inconsistent to be considered one of the best teams in the NFC (and I say that as a Packers fan). Their wins against Detroit and Washington to start the year were good, but they have played flat out ugly in their 3 losses. Hell even some of the games they didn’t lose like against Dallas and Arizona were lackluster. So I don’t know if that win was super impressive. But Carolina has some tough games down the stretch, so I guess that’ll tell us for sure

Odd timing to jump A&M up to number 1
Of the QBs, Rivers and Ryan feel like almost the same guy but for the fact that Ryan appeared in a SB. I think both should and will get in. Russell Wilson no. He was well on his way based on his time in Seattle but did not have as many productive years as his peers, and his performance since leaving will be a huge black mark on his career. Seems like the book is closed on his career as a starter
Ya I agree and certainly wouldn’t suggest that every play all game should be looked at. But at the same time, there’s zero reason that “sorry that just isn’t a reviewable play” should be a valid excuse for a bad call to impact the outcome of the game. It would have been so easy to review that PI call and pick up the flag, the league just continues to refuse to do it, and I feel like at this point the motive is sinister
re: That PI call in Eagles v. Lions

The technology exists to get every single call right all the time. The fact that every year we play whack a mole with what’s reviewable and what isn’t and we keep getting pivotal games decided by horrible calls that can’t be reviewed makes it clear as day the league wants to leave the door open to manipulate the outcomes of games. I don’t think it can even be considered a conspiracy theory at this point
Belichick pantsing McVay and making the Rams look like a JV team didn’t help either

I’ve never been more angry about a call that didn’t involve my team than that one. Absolutely terrible and yet perfectly represents how dumb NFL officiating is
I know it’s windy and whatever but holy shite at 14 for 37
I didn’t realize Dan Campbell was calling plays for both teams
Ya I had to look it up. Unsurprisingly it is their own record
What’s the record for most failed fourth down attempts in one game?
re: NFL Various Games - Week 11

Going for it on every fourth down was probably cute and endearing at first, but I have to imagine Lions fans will someday look back and be pissed to realize that that stupidity cost them their best chance at a Super Bowl
re: Contract the A’s, Pirates, Diamondbacks, Marlins, Indians, and Rangers
Posted by LL012697 on 8/13/25 at 6:09 pm to Draconian Sanctions
I do agree with contracting the Marlins and Pirates. Those are unserious teams that do nothing to field a competitive baseball team and have been that way for decades now. Then in the event they somehow luck into being decent they immediately let everyone worth a damn walk. The others are fine though

Eh they were already down 3-1 when he went down. They gave no indication they were going to win 3 in a row even with him. Boston was cooked when they blew back to back 20 point leads at home imo

Either Jim Palmer or Travis Fryman, depending on which guy you’re talking about

The oddest alliance is Dems and Muslims.
It’s funny given given that Muslims ultimately want to oppress or eradicate most everyone else the Dems are allied with (women, gays, trans, etc). Will be interesting to watch when that reckoning takes place

In the Portland area, health officials said 56% of cases were among people experiencing homelessness and 55% of cases reported methamphetamine and/or opiate usage. The spread is more prominent amongst drug users and men who have sexual contact with other men, as anal contact is more likely to spread the disease via infected fecal particles.

I actually was genuinely curious if she was planning to eliminate her own job. Which it sounds like she is. Good for her, refreshing to see
I didn’t even know we imported shrimp from china. What the hell for?
