He almost certainly sucks arse like 98% of college QBs, that one of the funnier parts of this saga

Pushing for legislation decades ago and allowing players to collectively bargain would’ve been a nice start
I’m not saying I have a perfectly manicured plan of what they should have done differently - you’d have to pay me for that much effort. but we’re talking about a massive billion dollar industry with enough money and resources to come up with a better plan and way to address it that shrugging your shoulders at it for 30 years

My thought is B12 won’t do anything until he actually plays in a game. Right now there is no damage except them not kicking him off team. They will have firm grounds once he plays

Hate to break it to your incredible ego but me and you hypothetically arguing about this 10 years ago didn’t create this, nor would have it prevented it
The system was built on kindling sticks, someone was going to light the match

Both of which are non-starters. Im not trying to be a jerk but both of those have massive issues with them.
Legislation- Do we really want the federal government involved in more things? They can't run the things that have now very effectively. Also, as an American, I don't want anything to do with the notion that the federal government can limit or cap or anything else regarding the earning potential of legal adult citizens. If they can limit a 20 year old college kid's contract with Nike, what's to say they can't limit what the plumber can charge for a service call? I don't trust the government to do much of anything so to whom would I give the power to determine what terms of a contract between a legal adult and another party can be? Massive slippery slope there. Also, you'd almost assuredly be in violation of anti-trust laws which would be struck down by the courts anyway.
Collectively Bargain- Under US labor laws, typically before collective bargaining can occur, the party must be classified as an employee. With that classification comes all the associated funds, taxes, insurance, etc. that we see with all employees in every industry. Most athletic departments operate in the red already. If suddenly every football player in the country was classified as an employee, it would bankrupt most programs in the country and would effectively kill college sports altogether.
Again, I'm not trying to be a douche. I'm just saying this is not nearly as simple as some present it.

Anything less than 2019 Joe Burrow and this guy isn't worth the trouble.
I think I find the most grotesque thing about this is TT trying to use this as some sort of springboard to the big boy's table instead of actually winning something of note.

I mean, what did you really want the NCAA to do?
The NCAA should have been working on legitimate NIL 20 years ago like I told them to, instead of pretending like it was crazy to even discuss.
If they had been proactive and created valid regulations, this shite show never comes to be. They put their fingers in their ears and forced the issue.

Like I said this is just normal politics. Money is donated. Favors are expected in return. TT is in B12 not SEC so nothing matters in the big scheme.

I just can't agree. Your premise assumes that had there been a "fair" deal, we wouldn't have the situations we have today. By what metric do you figure that? Let's say they did have "valid" regulations. Who gets to decide what valid and fair are? What happens the first time a player or players family disagrees that it's fair and sues the NCAA? There was a time when culturally people thought getting a free degree was "fair." How's that looking now? We maybe would've gotten to the point we are now sooner, but your assertion that we would've "avoided the shiteshow" ignores human nature, quite frankly.

100% agree with you!
I think this degenerate gambler deal will come to a head this year. All the pressure being put on TT and hopefully it continues will wear them down. It could affect recruiting if HS players worry about potential fall out as this unwinds.
On another front, having him rostered is the biggest issue right now. But thats out of established norms and principle. However, my guess is its harder for other schools and conferences to do anything because he hasn’t played a game this season.
He did bet on games he was on roster for, that alone should disqualify him. But for B12 to kick them out or do more - they will have to wait until he plays in a conference game to then have actual damages.
Its still possible TT decides not to play him at all, due to all the flak and potential of kicked out of conference once he plays. Then B12 has damages. And a better case to fight if sued by TT.
And my thought is TT knows if kicked out they have no place to go. Playing Indy they’d never get teams to agree. So the risk of being kicked out of B12 might make them reconsider before the season starts knowing it would be a death blow if it happens. Once he plays in their conference they have a bigger leg to stand on with ethics and various other clauses.
Its possible he never plays a down and TT is just bluffing for now. Once they sit down and realize how big this is nationwide, they might come to their senses.

At this point the Republican Party probably needs to be put out of its misery.

Isn't it crazy that all of the controversies of today that are happening on a day-to-day basis would have been massive stories more than 10 years ago?
It's exhausting.
This is so ridiculous.

Under the league's bylaws and rules, expulsion requires a supermajority vote (typically 75%) from the disinterested members of the conference's Board of Directors. The bylaws broadly empower presidents to sanction or remove a member for engaging in actions that are deemed materially adverse to the best interests of the conference.
This is why I said in another thread that the conferences are the ones who will have to start policing themselves.
Every conference has some form of this, and they all need to make sure they have clear guidelines on when and how they can decline a university its portion of the revenue share.
Thats the only way this nonsense slows down.
