Jesus…. politicians are absolute morins at reading the room. Why insert yourself and make problems for yourself when it’s not needed.

No, he's actually retarded. It shows every time he occasionally posts in a Braves thread.

Paxton is all about getting attention. He's more worried about getting headlines while offering a pedo a 1 day plea deal.

Players being about to make money off of NIL is not what’s going on now. Collectives, boosters throwing money in a hat in the open is what’s wrong (add transfer portal) and there’s no governing body with absolute power.
Collectives have been around since football became a money maker and boosters wanted their team to win.
Biggest problem is if the NCAA makes a ruling the schools or players don’t like, it goes in front of a judge who’s a fan and rules in that way.

Just how good is this dude? Is he really worth all this circus?

We are in this situation because the people in charge decided to keep the money train flowing as long as possible rather than plan for this inevitable issue coming to the forefront
NCAA and the sports power brokers sat on their hands for decades to collect as much cash as they could before the fat lady sang.

I mean, what did you really want the NCAA to do? They have established rules that schools agree to. A ruling comes down that the schools don't like and they run to the judiciary for an injunction. How is the NCAA supposed to fight that?

Two things/ways:
(1) Everyone knew the tide was turning on player compensation and transferring. The NCAA should have gotten out ahead of it and implemented fair NIL and transfer rules long before courts started mandating them to. It would have solved a lot of the current problems.
(2) The NCAA has a long history of selective punishment and unequal punishment. They absolutely deserve to be taken to court if they are not applying their own rules evenly. However, on the gambling stuff, they always have and should have won in court.

Have a little foresight and address the issue internally rather than waiting on the courts to force your hand.
And I’m not directing it solely at the feet of the NCAA, I mentioned the power brokers of the sport because it’s the teams and conferences that really control this stuff.

So this guy is willing to die on this hill? What about all of the voters that are fans of Texas, Texas A&M etc?
seems like a silly move.
How is there any jurisdiction on Texas Tech's away games? Does a Texas judge's decision carry weight in Iowa or Kansas?

The Big 12 should schedule a vote:
quote:
Under the league's bylaws and rules, expulsion requires a supermajority vote (typically 75%) from the disinterested members of the conference's Board of Directors. The bylaws broadly empower presidents to sanction or remove a member for engaging in actions that are deemed materially adverse to the best interests of the conference.

He is reading the room. That room has lots of donors to his political career. And they called in a favor for said donations to his campaign.
Thats all this is. TT has oil money people who also contribute to Paxton. If you gave big dollars to him you’d call in that favor too.
The problem is the judge who made the decision. That was wrong.

No it wouldn't. If anything, this Sorsby thing is showing how far the envelope is and will continue to get pushed. For crying out loud, we're talking about a kid being eligible that bet against his own team via unders at times. We got guys that are getting additional eligibility years tacked on left and right. We're really going to pretend that had the NCAA instituted "fair" NIL that all of this would've somehow been avoided? That at some point, lawsuits wouldn't have come and we'd be right here where we are anyway?

Look I'm not here to stump for the NCAA because they have botched plenty of things but relative to this case, idk what people expected them to do.

Believe Techs argument there would be they can't be punished by the conference for adhering to a TI
But then the conference could just say they are a private club and can determine membership
Do wonder how that shakes it out if thats the route taken

It's easy to say have foresight but no one can really say what that would've looked like. See my repsonse to the other guy.

I think he’s referring to the state wide Senate race Paxton is currently in

The truth is the only option was to be hellbent like there were. There is no “just let them kinda be amateur students” way to making it work. We tried to tell you this but you didn’t listen and now your above talking point is how you rectify how wrong you were

It's not lots though. This is basically one spoiled arse billionaire who doesn't like being told no.
It's a really fricking stupid thing for him to get involved in and he's giving Talerico a massive gift for the election.
