i love how rules are thrown out when emotional thinking starts to creep in

I'm just asking if anyone can see that happening. Has he said anything about fighting this? From my understanding he's been pretty quiet about the whole thing.
Sterling is a lawyer who has tied up pretty much every coach he's ever fired in court about paying them the remainder of their salary.
He's the kind of a-hole who will tie this up in court for years just because he can.

Funny thing is I bet half the people in here have grandfathers that are just a racist as Sterling.

Sterling will sue the NBA.
Sterling v. The National Basketball Association will reach the SCOTUS.
What they do, no one know.

But would it be fair to punish his family too? I'm just spitballing here I don't care either way.

I'm proud of Silver. Def should have chest bumped somebody or had lil john in the back playing hype man.

Don't the owners have to vote him out?
Yes. To all the people thinking the NBA will be hurt financially over this move, I don't think you really understand basic business. This was a straight PR move on the league's part. A very ballsy one at that, and that's what it needed to be. It's a better look for the league to be tied up in court fighting racism over giving the man a weenie punishment.
Also, a smart move on the owners part from their standpoint in dealing with players moving forward. Silver basically just straight up told them that he has their back as the new commissioner.

This is some scary thought police stuff here. I wish all conversations of all persons associated with teh NBA were put on display and we could see if anyone else would be banned for life.
We really are a culture of thought police. Being offended for the sake of being offended. There is a reason why we are thought of as the most tolerant country in the world. We have a wave of media tolerance that's not common with the rest of the world.
How easily you are offended is proportional to how stupid you are.

Our grandparents don't own a team in a 85% black league.

How can he make him pay a fine when he just suspended him for life?
This is what I was thinking. Why the frick would he pay money to something he can't have anything to do with? What is tying him to paying that fine?

For the record, punishment of players is determined by a different document than the NBA "constitution." The collective bargaining agreement will have different rules and stipulations for punishment.

Then you are fricking clueless. Taking a man's property because of his private opinion sounds consitutional right?
If you mean the NBA constitution that he is a party to, it is as long as the required number of owners vote on it

This. I bet 50% of the people in that press room would be thrilled if he was taken outside and shot in the head.
This is the scary fricking thing about our society now. This man didn't even say anything that bad. Players on the court say shite worse than this.
