I fact checked this statement. It is 100% accurate.

Marquette has a huge following in Chicago and a large booster-base to draw from. Obviously, not as large as Texas but I'd imagine it comes with less strings.

The elite programs have had a stable coaching situation for extended periods of time prior to their success. I can think of several off the top of my head. Kentucky, Duke, UNC, MSU, Kansas Nova, Virginia etc...

Of course not as much money to draw from or boosters as Texas as a whole
But I wouldn’t doubt most those boosters at Texas don’t give a frick about basketball

Some people just don't like hard truths I guess. Especially the racist one

Embarrassing losses tend to turn on the spotlight.

Texas had a very good season, and lost in a Mickey Mouse tournament so everyone freaked out after Shaka’s best season which is dumb.
how many seasons does texas need to give shaka smart before he has to win ONE TIME in a mickey mouse tournament?
it looks like they decided on 5 tournaments (6 seasons, they could have won a game last year, but there's not really any reason to believe it).
shaka was ok with texas. they had a really strong year. im still fine with moving on, to be honest. will they do better? idk

Shaka Smart has always been wildly overrated based on a fluke final four run in a year where they barely even made the tournament.
Not surprising he's leaving Texas while he has the chance to do so on his own terms.

This is, quite frankly, bullshite.
Abilene Christian went D1 in 2013 and just won their first NCAA tournament game. Shaka has been at Texas 6 years and still has not won his first Tournament game.
He has had 5 straight top 20 recruiting classes, multiple NBA players and yet is still a complete failure. He would have been fired long ago, if the previous AD didn't give him 5 yr fully guaranteed after losing in the first round to an 11 seed as a six in year 2.
His overall record is 109-86, he is 52-56 in conference (under .500).
His big achievement this year was winning two games in the conference tournament, against a team that played 4 games in 4 days, vs 2 games with 1 forfeit and a day off before the final. They still almost lost.
Exactly!
Even suggesting race might have had something to do with it is BEYOND ridiculous. After 2011 Smart's name constantly came up as a potential hire with virtually every major conf. job that became available. Year after year. Yet, Smart remained at VCU for another 4 years following the Final Four run. He was one of the most sought after HC's for five years...until he finally left VCU for Texas's big offer. Texas thought they were getting the golden goose many had tried to get, but couldn't
In 6 years Smart NEVER lived up to expectations. In fact, at best he was only slightly better than the last years of Rick Barnes's tenure. In 6 seasons there he only finished above .500 in the Big 12 TWICE!! Smart's first year and Barnes's last year were almost identical. In fact, Barnes advanced further in the NCAAT in the year he was let go than Smart ever did at Texas.
The bottom line is that Texas paid for huge results and in return got just "ok" results. Smart may have been fired last season but for a late season surge that gave them a chance of getting into the NCAAT. He probably survived because of the NCAAT being canceled prevented him from getting another first round loss.
This year was an up and down season, but ultimately turned out to be Smart's best. He got a 3 seed in the NCAAT...then lost to a 14. And not only a 14, but a 14 who was an in-state Southland conf. school. Texas is biggest school in the state. But they didn't lose to Baylor, or Texas Tech, or Houston in the NCAAT. They lost to ABILENE CHRISTIAN!
He got every opportunity to make that program a powerhouse again and he didn't. And it looked even worse when schools like Baylor, Texas Tech and Houston were producing FAR better results than Texas.
This had NOTHING to do with race. And the fact that anyone might suggest otherwise is pathetic

Smart of him to leave. He wasn't going to make it another year anyway.

Thank you for this post that cuts through the “Texas sucks, is arrogant and racist” bull shite that is automatically spewed from hatred and/or jealousy... Haters gonna hate, and TEXAS can do better than Rick Barnes and Shaka Smart.

Why do ALL tea sippers wear diapers? Cause they think their shite doesn’t stink.
