Not entirely, I was slightly joking about that being all they care about, but he doesn't have the pressure that he had, or that he would get at a lot of other big basketball schools.

Texas will keep hiring and firing coaches in all sports and wonder why they can't consistently win. Such unbridled (and unwarranted) arrogance.

What are you talking about? Texas has had far fewer coaching changes across the board than almost every D1 program over the last 30 years.

So untrue. Marquette spends a shite ton of money on their basketball program.

Marquette was 17th in revenue in 2019 among basketball programs in the country
Above Texas which was 20th

Marquette is not some small program that’s just happy to be there

The Big East needs to add Loyola-Chicago. They would fit in with the rest of the Catholic schools.

Doesn't really add a TV market because they already have DePaul, but they stink anyway.

Plus Loyola is a bigger school than Butler, Creighton, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, and Xavier. They would be the 5th biggest school in the league.

The Big East should also raid the likes of Dayton and VCU. Bring back the magic of the Big East tournament in MSG.

You don’t agree that Texas is a school with donors who will drop you the second they don’t like you???

Pople need to realize Loyola will be a joke in 1 year or 2. Once Porter is gone, they will go back to the Whitesell days.

If you want catholic + market, Saint Louis is way better. If you just want catholic + program dayton is way better. Both of those are in a much better position than Loyola.

Not to mention, Marquette and SLU were rivals until 15 years ago, and SLU and X are still rivals.

The BE will want these schools in order
1) SLU
2) UD
3) VCU
4) Loyola

No i agree with that
I don’t agree that Marquette is just happy to be there and doesn’t have any kinds of pressure
Being in the Big East at a school where they’ve experienced success and dont have a football team this isn’t some walk in the park

the texas fan base is frustrating. he built a good team this year with a lot of good players. they won the big 12 tournament which is a monumental achievement for the program. the program is (was?) on a fantastic trajectory. losing in the tournament happens to 67 teams every year. it isnt that uncommon. building a basketball powerhouse takes time. coaches in basketball need to establish their recruiting network and systems for years before a program becomes elite.

but yet all i hear around town is shaka is a bad coach. some false sense of entitlement of a program that traditionally hasnt been elite, just sort of good. i dont get where the sense of we should be better than that, we should get whatever recruits we want comes from. really low iq basketball fanbase.

i dont often take the race card seriously, but i think this has a lot to do with race. the old white men at texas dont want a brown guy as coach. i honestly believe that has more to do with it than performace. if you disagree i respect that opinion, i wouldnt take it credibly if it was another fan base.

Agree with a lot of this, but don’t think it’s exclusive to the Texas fan base. Honestly, I think most football dominant schools really struggle with this. Our fans are the same way (even worse in all honesty with expectations of the program).

Texas had a very good season, and lost in a Mickey Mouse tournament so everyone freaked out after Shaka’s best season which is dumb.

Could very much see Texas go the Michigan route here with Royal Ivey (former player who is an assistant w the Nets).

Marquette has as many Final Fours as Texas AND a national championship.

He’s going to a better program.

Should be a good fit for Shaka

Wonder what the hot board looks like...

Do they go the young guy route or experience

To be fair, they lost to a team that shot 29%, and then showed in the next round that they didn’t belong on that level. That game for Texas was an embarrassment.

And the Big East is sneaky great. Has 2 NCs in the last 5 years and more teams in the 16 this year than the B1G and Big 12.

And in 2020, they were probably going to get seven of their 10 teams in the NCAA Tournament.
