Skip Bayless says that he has “no sympathy” for Dak Prescott’s struggles with depression

A day after Dak Prescott opened up about his older brother’s suicide and how he’s coped with it, Fox Sports host Skip Bayless said he had no sympathy for the Dallas Cowboys quarterback – and implied that his vulnerability hinders his leadership abilities.

“I have deep compassion for clinical depression, but when it comes to the quarterback of an NFL team, you know this better than I do, it’s the ultimate leadership position in sports, am I right about that?” Bayless said on “Undisputed” on Thursday. “You are commanding an entire franchise… And they’re all looking to you to be their CEO, to be in charge of the football team.

“Because of all that, I don’t have sympathy for him going public with, ‘I got depressed’ and ‘I suffered depression early in COVID to the point that I couldn’t even go work out.’ Look, he’s the quarterback of America’s team.”

Prescott recently revealed that his older brother, Jace, took his own life this past spring and how emotionally draining the experience was. The Cowboys star said he is now imploring others to open up about their struggles, adding “it showed me how vulnerable we have to be as humans.”

I’ll have no sympathy for Skip Bayless if he is fired or suspended for this. I guess this bothers me more than it will most people on this board because of my own struggles with severe anxiety. No one should be shamed for discussing their mental health struggles, even if they are the QB for “America’s Team.” For some people, having the opportunity to discuss their struggles can be the difference between living or taking their own life. Skip Bayless gets paid to argue about sports on TV, so maybe he doesn’t have much that he has to worry about, but that doesn’t give him the right to crap on other people because they are struggling.

I find nothing wrong with what Bayless said

Seems like he was making the point depression is real, but it can’t be used as a crutch if you are in a postition of leadership. It’s harsh, but it’s true. Those spots you either deal with it, or find something else and get your personal life straight.

I don't get how biased Bayless is for the Cowboys. He has been their mouthpiece against Prescott all off season. I'm glad Prescott came out publicly and is trying to get others to seek help. Nothing wrong with anything he has done or said.

Bayless isn't getting fired though. I don't think anybody takes what he says seriously..

There is nothing wrong about what Prescott said. But if you can’t even workout(show up to work) you don’t get sympathy from a work/competitive standpoint.

To me, that’s how I read Skips point

But I get it, it’s 2020, let’s kill him

Skip hates Cowboys QBs more than he hates LeBron. At least he hasn’t called Dak gay. Yet.

If only it were that easy to just shut off depression and ignore it.

You’re right. He should just look himself in the mirror and say, “Out you depression! I’m an NFL QB and you have no home here!”

In other words, you have no clue what you’re talking about.

I've watched a friend of my battle depression and trauma since her mother's suicide a couple years back. It's heartbreaking watching her, couldn't imagine being the one living with it. It's very much a real thing and extremely crippling.

But Skip doesn’t know what Dak is feeling. It sounds ridiculous, but mental health issues can be absolutely crippling. They can lead to an inability to function properly. People who aren’t experiencing it don’t always understand that. I can speak from my personal experiences that sometimes there are days where it is hard to even simply go through the motions, let alone go through a day normally.

Money didn't help Robin Williams, Kurt Cobain, Chester Bennington, or Chris Cornell.

It's almost like depression is mental health issue

Took one post for someone to very obviously prove they have no idea wtf they are talking about when it comes to mental health. Even for this board, that’s impressively quick

And in the 5 minute segment he clearly states that

He simply said, as it relates to the game of football, the other teams don’t stop if you can’t workout. The other teams don’t care if you aren’t mentally all there

And he also mentioned it’s unfair, but in a position of leadership in a physical sport, your own teammates will doubt you ability to lead if they think you aren’t all there

It was actually a good honest segment. But whatever, nobody cares

Yeh you don’t know who the frick you are talking to about this

But anyway, the point remains, other teams and the world doesn’t stop for your mental issues. Sorry that upsets some
