If only it were that easy to just shut off depression and ignore it.

One of the frustrating parts of dealing with depression is being able to rationalize and realize that so many people truly have it worse off than you and that you have many good things going for you, that you really should not be depressed. Unfortunately you can't just flip a switch and turn it off.

Makes you feel like a complete selfish piece of shite.

He simply said, as it relates to the game of football, the other teams don’t stop if you can’t workout. The other teams don’t care if you aren’t mentally all there

And he also mentioned it’s unfair, but in a position of leadership in a physical sport, your own teammates will doubt you ability to lead if they think you aren’t all there

Skip could have made the point a lot better, then. Dak didn’t say that he expected the rest of the NFL to stop while he got his personal life and mental health straight. He was simply discussing his experiences and struggles. Skip certainly shouldn’t have used the phrase “no sympathy” when discussing this.

100% you nor anyone in here actually watched the quote and listened to the entire segment.

Nah, I watched it all. It was absolute garbage - even for Skip. His insinuation was that Dak revealed weakness by coming out with this. And that people in leadership positions, like a QB, shouldn’t “reveal weakness”. He even says “you can’t give in to depression, you have to rise above it” which further insinuates depression is something you can just push through - a dangerous stigma that needs to go away,

Admitting you have mental health issues and need help is far from being “weak”, more so it shows strength.

Actually watching the entire segment it seems blatantly obvious

But attaching a paragraph quote to a segment he spoke 12 minutes on is modern day journalism. Same thing that got Brees

And it will still 100% be seen as weakness in a football locker room

Sucks, but that’s the truth

Exactly. Skip tried to argue that, because Dak is the QB of the Dallas Cowboys, he should just find a way to push through and not reveal his struggles. Unfortunately, depression and other mental health issues don’t work that way. There is no on/off switch in a lot of cases.

Maybe so, I don’t think you or I or anyone know how athletes in a locker room will truly feel about this. 15 years ago, they would absolutely see him as “weak” Now? I’m not so sure. If it’s seen by teammates as weakness then it will continue to be seen as such if we keep repeating the stigma like Skip.

On the other hand, if more and more people like Dak and other athletes recently (Derozan, Love, etc) come forward and speak about their battles, we can normalize it and see it for what it truly is.

I get that Skip's the Master of Clickbait, but this was a step way too far. Congrats Skip, you probably just united the country on something.

Start a suicide thread on the OT

The majority of posters will think the person is a selfish weak pussy. And OTers are still 10x more evolved than nfl players

If Dak cant rise above adversity then he shouldnt be cashing paychecks. Skip is 100% correct on this one. NFL players will have zero sympathy or will not follow a QB who is saying he is depressed.
