He looks like he could do it since he has closed to win both the last 2 races. However, will the extra distance wear on him?

The only horse that even has a chance is Bodemeister, but who know. Bodemeister ran his race at the derby and it didn't work and tried to beat ill have another at his own game today and couldn't do that either. I think I'll have another can do it...seems like he has the staying power.

I think he's better suited for the distance considering how he ran the first two legs and looking at his pedigree. Certainly more so than the speedster Bodemeister. Problem is a horse like Dullahan who sets up well going 1 1/2m will be in the race and he'll be more fresh having not raced today.

This was the hardest race for I'll Have Another. He is built for a little more distance.

Also, Bodemeister is not going to run in the Belmont.

I just posted this in the Preakness thread, but it is a list of all the triple crown winners and a list of all the triple crown near misses.

LINK

I am pulling for a triple crown winner just to say I was able to see one in my life time.

He'd have no chance in the Belmont.

He's gotten walked down in 2 shorter races.

For those of you who don't follow horse racing too much, I broke down the distances in the most relative terms so you can understand just how hard of a feat it is.

The Kentucky Derby is the longest race of most of these horses lives up to that point, most aren't sure how strong they can go at that distance. Then the Preakness comes along and is 110 yards shorter than the Derby, horses that run well in derby can usually run well in the Preakness. The Belmont is an entirely different animal, it is 600+ yards longer than the Kentucky Derby, it's incredibly hard to predict if a horse is built to run that fast for that long. Dullahan is going to give I'll Have Another all he can handle at the Belmont.

The Silver Charm, Real Quiet, and Charismatic years were awesome and awful all in one. Then with Smarty I thought it was gonna happen. I'll be glued to the TV for sure.

i think he can pull it off, he has a long stride. I'll have another can fly when he has to.

Frenchy needs to stay on rags to help our triple crown chances

His mamma is an arch mare! I think he'll get the distance (love arch).

It's the rested horses that scare me.

I remember there were a few years there where you had a Triple Crown candidate each year -- War Emblem, Funny Cide and Smarty Jones. None could get it done.

I grew up thinking this was just how it was supposed to be.

I thought Big Brown was practically a lock for the TC in 2008 after his dominating performances in the Derby and the Preakness. Then the shoe debacle happened in the Belmont with Desormeaux pulling up.

I'll Have Another has a decent shot - you just worry about other jockeys maybe purposefully making it difficult for him to pull it off. His closing speed definitely works in his favor, I just hope he doesn't poop out after a mile and a quarter.

Big brown was also not getting his winstrol because of all the controversy it was causing.

I think the shoe happened to be an easy and convenient out.

Big brown was literally on steroids and oneill is getting shite for a possible milkshake test?

Also, I'll have another doesn't have to close. He can lay close if need be. They may do that this time to get a jump on horses like dullahan and union rags(unless he lays closer too).

Also, jockeys do that in every race. Go back and watch the Florida derby and poor rags. At least Iha seems mature enough to go wherever the kid puts him.

That's what was impressive looking at the derby and preakness.

There's been a lot of I told you so going on in my house. Boy hates when I'm right

Will paynter be the lone speed?

I think I remember reading somewhere there were rumors of having trouble keeping him sound this winter.

If the preakness was a little longer, IHA would have won by lengths instead of a nose. He was pulling away at the wire. I think he'll do it, but not at Bodemeister's expense. He'll follow mid way in the pack and catch whomever is in front of him. My wife and I were going like, he's going to catch Bod., no he's not, yes he is, no he's not, and then he won. Great race.

In my opinion the jockeys on eddIngton and rock hard ten rode the belmont not to win but to have Smarty Jones lose. SJ ran the first 1 1/4 of the belmont in a time that would have won all but 3 Derbys to date. He did not choke.

I don't like smarty and even I admit he didn't choke
