Most of oneill's violations are for legal drugs, just too much in the system. Every state has different rules, and they change them all the time. Louisiana just change their bute % this year.
If you haven't been around the business, you shouldn't comment about O'Neil. Obviously not talking to you ASPY. People don't realize that the trainer doesn't give the horse the Bute and Lasix. My grandfather got nailed in Ohio when some idiot gave our horse too much Lasix before a race. He was the 7/5 ML choice and pretty much owned the series of distance races there. Test comes back and they fine my grandfather and suspend him. I'm sure that this happens more in lower levels than at the BIG TIME, but I'm not around that much anymore. Now Dutrow can go frick himself.

The best seats at the Derby go from anywhere between $3,000 and $60,000. You can get infield general admission tickets for less than 100 bucks I think. I'd rather pay something like $300 to have a seat in the grandstand though. Infield is more of just a party. I'd more interested in the actual races.

Considering his breeding this Paynter horse would scare me if he had a stakes win under his belt.
Are we sure Union Rags can get the distance here?
Also - looking to start handicapping this thing - what track is most similar to the sandy surface at Belmont?

Glad we can agree on dutrow
It's especially hard when running in different states.
And you're right. I didn't even think to mention that vets give all drugs, not trainers.
Can't even have banamine on site for colics because needles found in the barn are serious violations.
Thanks bho!

See my post on the last page
Earlier this year I read rumors of soundness issues with paynter. Maybe hind end?
Do t think they'd run him if they hadn't fixed it, though.

The cheating that goes on at lesser tracks is silly. I love River Downs in Ohio. Spent a lot of days up there running cheap horses. If you ever had a good one they would try and cheat the hell out of you. We had another horse that won a few races in a row up there and went off as the favorite by a lot. As the horses entered the stretch, I noticed the tail was much shorter than it left the paddock with. Horse broke slow came on and won by a couple. After the picture we went and watched the replay and sure enough, the asst. starter held the horses tail out and closed it in the rear door. So when the gate opened she ripped her half of her tail off to get loose.

That makes sense.
If they run similar people better watch out for Alpha on June 9. He's bred to get the 1 1/2m and he's really good in NY.

I'm still mad at alpha.
I couldn't see the paddock so I didn't know how washy he got. Dropped bode for alpha in my exacta while standing in line to bet
Btw, people in the comments at drf are cracking me up. Saying there's no way a $30,000 claim can win a stakes without doping.
We claimed one for $25,000 this fall and he's won 5 in a row, out of allowance conditions, and, had he been entered, would have won the sprint race on the Preakness undercard.
He's heading for stakes this summer. All he needed was to back off on his training a tiny bit.

Explain stakes?

Stakes races are the bigger races.
In general terms, races are classified as eithe claiming, allowance, or stakes races in that order of importance/purses.
There are some grey areas with optional claimers, starter stakes/handicap/allowance etc.
Hope I kind of explain it ok. I'm on lots of Benadryl today.
Claimers are "for sale" and can be claimed out of their races before the race starts for a set price. They are usually conditioned, such as maiden, non winners of 2, and so on. After a while they are just open claimers, and this, out of conditions. Those open races are salty. Most races are actually claiming races.
Allowance races are conditioned too. They start with maiden special weight and go to non2, 3, 4, etc (very general). Once you get to open allowance they are pretty much stakes fields and hard to fill.
Stakes are the big ones. You have restricted stakes, such as age restrictions, filly/mare, or statebred races. The really big ones are either grade 1,2, or 3, with 1 being the best.
Hopefully that helped some and made a little sense? Who knows, you probably already know all that anyway

Does anyone have any insight about looking at horses before the race to see if they are feeling good or will run better?
Posted on 5/22/12 at 9:55 pm to PokerChamp21
Look at their coat, their weight, their expression, and how they get over the ground.
There will be plenty of pictures/videos leading up to the race.
And thanks me bite!
